    Re: gorenje suppliers

of course gorenje will say dad, its their primary distributor. part of the agreement is that dad hold x amount of stock for being listed as the sole distributor.

dont get me wrong, i enjoy using dad, until they become the only distrubutor stuck cos of the weather, but mind they are in a bit of a valley and the m5 was closed off!

was it for built in or freestanding? what model were you after??

just asking as pjh often hold a greater amount of gorenje built-in than dad

well as i said, if you start out with x-amount and reduce it down, its not the same thing as both people are expecting to pay initial amount.

on a slightly different tangent, how would you judge the follwoign situation.

customer loves a horrible, nasty servis

youve been called out to fit a new hinge, as the doors hanging off, they hre happy to pay £40 for your time, and say a tenner for the parts.

its rusty has not a lot of life in it and spares are sparse but obsolete. you know the bearings are on the way out, and it will either collapse, or blow up within the year.

not only has the hinge broken, but the door rim hinge supports have gone.
the rim is available and £20 trade

    do you

a: fit the hinge and charge as agreed and do not inform of the short life expectancy

b: fit the hinge, inform the rim has broken, the repair will not last without the rim replacing, and its £30 for parts, not mentioning the wear & tear

c: turn up, assess machine, its not worth fitting the hinge due to overall wear & tear, and quote a new rim for £30, which customer agrees to having as customer insists on hinge being fitted, and to pay accordingly, knowing you will be asked back to it in 3 months time as its destroyed itself irrepairably

d: turn up, assess machine, its not worth fitting the hinge due to overall wear & tear, and customer insists on hinge being fitted, and to pay accordingly, knowing you will be asked back to it in 3 months time as its destroyed itself, state the rim is now obsolete and fittign the hinge is money down the drain as it will fail within the week, forcing her into ordering a new machine

which is most morally correct, and which is most ethically correct.

have a maximum capped call out and repair £, and discretionary reduction to min of £25+vat, depending on niceness, easiness and closeness.

but have been known to cut labour right down to cover basic costs, i.e travel/insurance, if repair gets really expensive and machine is under 3yrs and came from me initially.

gotta do this because we have a semi-retired ex-comet/bosch engineer working on our doorstep who isnt vat reg’d for £25 repairs+parts. he manages to cherry pick most the easy jobs (elelements, filters, door hinges etc) and declines anything £25 labour will be too cheap for. bit annoying as he isnt willing to do the tougher tasks, but at least i guess its better that he refers those customers to us, rather than manufacturers engineers.

Re: Hoover Washingmachine 1400 no motor action

pcb is a favourite culprit, often caused by the motor – look on the secondary main module in the rhs at the top – not the display one.

burnouts on these are pretty obvious

or one of the springs has worn thru plastic support on the carcass. plug out then lid off.

go on to connect look up the model and in mediator will be the diagnostic manual for this. then put it thru a diagnostic test, and tell us the error code. they only tend to give out error codes voluntarily which come from user-actuated faults. i.e turning cold feed off, waste hose too low etc

Re: Hotpoint DWF31 pcb blown question on repair

its a bosch made d/w. any parts you try and source will be stupidly priced, unless you can source it direct from bosch. in which case you will need the code that is stamped just below the DWF31 in small letters on the door edge…

pretty certain hp wont cover the parts for the 106 quid either, as it must be over 5 years old now?!

and dwf31s seem to be dropping like flies, been to 2 this month already. both with popped pcbs

50/50 chance emw will be able to repair it, if its linked to a heating fault.

*edit* just checked on my system and is showing as obsolete as a hp part so id see if emw can get it fixed.

Re: New Bosch wtv74306 is sporadicly F09ing-not get warm enu

    ahhhhh explains it

it is in a external washroom, there is a boiler in there which keeps the chill off the room, but its not exactly toasty. plus machine had been kept outside in loading bay prior to installation.

so will this be another one of those, start it up a couple of times before it works kinda situation till the artic weather passes?

dont forget not only does the softer compound of winter tyres wear out faster in summer, they also cause more friction in summer, and therefore have a higher rolling resistance, meaning they use more fuel as well in summer.

best option is to keep a spare set of rims (cheaply available from scrappys/ebay) for the driven wheels, i.e front or rear unless a 4×4… and fit them with winter tyres. its apprx extra 10-15{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} worth of noticeable grip for un-powered wheels with winter tyres in the temps were currently experiencing, and therefore negligiable at low speeds

so this is unfair because: its ok to be a total c u next tuesday to make an egineer back down to get your own way, but politeness is not allowed to be rewarded???

if its your own business, you have your own discretion.

im not saying charge nasty people extra, but ill often use my discretion to reduce the call out if the person has been amicable, and repair has been straightforward or reasonable about a repair if ive been delayed, and not wasted half my day ringing up every 10 mins to find out if im on my way… which of course, only delays you further…

and allan, never quote just for a belt and fitting for a vtd/is60/tvr. say itll be either XX (lab) + belt, but be aware you may need a bearign kit as well @ XX.

most of merloni’s t/d belt replacements will need varying amounts of components from a bearing kit. if you quote for the whole kit, you can use whatever you need from it and reduce the price of it if necessary… its advice that comes with experience of each machine, but one where, if your aware of it, its unproffesional not to mention it at the time of the quote.
