Re: parkinson cowan gas cooker faulty lid

iirc the issue is based on a modification to the top oven door seal to allow carbon monoxide not to build up in substantial amounts, because an auto cut-off valve that operates when the door is shut was not fitted to that model.

the recall has nothing to do with the cut off valve that the lid operates, so you wouldnt normally get that repair for free (you could try and blag it tho by saying its always been like that since you got the cooker)

im not a gas safe engineer so ive never worked on the lid mechanisms, so cant say how it should or shouldnt operate. but i would be tempted to get a second opinion before going any further, and if your entitled to the free mod on the grill for the cooker, then id get the engineer who visits opinion on it.

Re: Dishwasher-Choice Between NEFF OR Bosch (Specific Models

the electronics on both are siemens based, but the newer the appliance the sooner the electronics are failing.

basically its a symptom of cost cutting price-pressure from the big people.

bosch/neff: itll be £350 per machine

multiple: well we will have £5000 then. or 50000 if you do it for £250 per machine

bosch/neff: ok but it will have to be made cheaper

    multiple: ok, we dont care…

obviously figures are hypothetical but thats hte general idea of things.

not really. catalyti liners should be changed after a dfew years anway as they are designed to absorb and burn off grease, but eventually they get oversaturated. a bit of mr muscle on hi-gloss enamel surfaces once an month is just as good and far cheaper…

you could repace the selector switch or thermal regulator but theres no guanrantee that is the reason.

your best option is to call out an engineer, because guesswork can be expensive, and otherwise you then have to work out how to replace the part too…

alternatively of course the oven could be in auto/time-not-set mode 😛

it will probably be more because theyre supplier does not supply freestanding appliances!

thing is anything is possible. likelyhood is the planned plumbers will be expected to do a basic job cos it will be for the cheapest price, and therefore they will only expect to supply a twin spike on the sink pipe for the w/m and d/w. therefore depthy shouldnt be an issue unless the main waste passes behind where your planned washer is going…

in which case, that isnt a problem unless its a long way away from your kitchen planners intended position.

although i would get 2nd opinions now they have said that about accomodating a f/s appliance, if you were happy to i would ask us to double check all there intended suggestions of positioning appliances because we have come across so many poorly thought out instals, i think leeb has come across many as an electrolux engineer, and at the end of the day, who is the client? you or the kitchen planner… just os it saves the kitchen planner a few quid to do a few things doesnt mean they are passing that onto you, normally its called “added value”

Ps the new belling ovens are a bit naff. really didnt like the build quality when i saw them at a trade show in march 😛

Re: parkinson cowan gas cooker faulty lid

are you sure its a parkinson cowan cos the only g755 i know of is a belling. the fact it says mk 2 makes me think it almost certainly must be a belling because the elux group who own the p/c name dont tend to use “mk1/mk2” etc on their models.

can you list all the info on the metal label? it should have prod no. or pnc if its a p/c appliance

Re: Any advice for my Kitchen Refit?

depends on the size of your kitchen, as to what depth of worktop that can be allowed in the design, but i know a fair few customers are now having the maximum depth of worktop possible to allow them to put freestanding washers behind a cupboard door, as if it was integrated. this will save you almost £400 for a 1400 bosch b/i w/d vs f/s w/d

also if you go for a f/d w/d but set behind a cupboard door that would allow you to go for a miele at a viable price. just make sure you get a minimum of 5yr warranty!

would agree with don about going 60w over 45w, cheaper, uses barely any more water/electricity, and far more choice.

as for the oven you will prolly have to go gorenje because the cheapest bosch/neff b/u dbl with a grill in each oven is approx 800ish, and more for higher spec models…

if it was me and the above was viable

    £1000 w/d: (budget extra £300)
    WT2780 miele (f/s) £1200-1300

    £1000 f/f: (save £100)
    RK60359O – cream or black 70/30 retro fridge + 5yr p&l warranty

    £500-800 oven:
    BDU2135AX gorenje w/ 2x grills £750ish
    HBN43B250B bosch cheapest w/ 2x grills £950ish
BU82SS hotpoint comes in at budget of about £500 if you can get a graded one, £650 for perfect… has nice halogen top grill tho.

    £400 hob
VLC80TCSS vitralux 80cm hob. if you have the width they are very good value…

PS u might well get a better deal taking a list like this to an independant asking for a boxed/delivered price for the lot.

Re: parkinson cowan gas cooker faulty lid

your cheapest option would be to get the gas fitter who sounds like they condemned it, to return and repair it. not many other engineers will go near a condemned gas cooker, its not worth the risk to their reputation for the price a customer is happy pay. if she isnt happy to fix it then there are usually 2 reasopns why, she doesnt feel the cooker is safe enough, or she hasnt the ability to source parts. if its the latter she should be able to know and recommend a colleague who can.

ps supplying model numbers is a massive help…

yehi hate the way manufacturers deliberately design parts that are “engineered to fail” like every other common fault with every other otherwise decent appliance…

at least with the gorenje you wont have to pay smegs part prices when it does go wrong…

    Re: fridge disposal

dont forget many of the more decent “pikeys” you mention visiting the yards tend to be close or extended family.

theres a reasonable level of scrapvalue at the moment on a f/f that can make an unregulated disposal of a fridge worth taking.

bear in mind general scrap value is now falling again tho, so this is likely to be shortlived…
