ParticipantRe: Hotpoint WDD960P bearings gone
sorry for hte hijack bo/jim but just interested apart from diameter how much difference 5mm actually makes to the lifespan of them? is there any sort of mathematical equation that is used to dictate size of race used? sort of like how ohms law is used to determine cable diameter??

yeh and also in my recent experience with customers, hotpoint wont do it just for the £106. they INSIST on the extra labour/warranty. basically if you tell them its a bearing failure they’re call centre are refusing to state in writing they will do the job for £106!
and one of my more unfortunate customers were unwittingly conned into paying for the extra labour because the bearing failure repair took approx 1hr 15mins. she was annoyed because she reckons the engineer took about 10 mins doing the “minimal” paperwork, and there were numerous visits to his van for at least 5 or so mins – 4 or 5 times during the first hour. apparently once was definitely a fag break, so shes taken it up with hp’s c/s. even i have to admit it sounds somewhat suspicious,
and the real question is have the indesit/hp engineers unofficially been told either by their line managers or head office for the more difficult/expensive repairs to eek it out?

ParticipantRe: h/point sealed drums
most of my customers decline a repair, so the bearing failure machines get electrically stripped, and the next electrical ber i get has a non-ber repair 🙂
that is unless ive saved a electrical ber machine that has a good tub cos i didnt have the s/h electronics at the time.
then i hybridise for a recon 🙂

easy to work on.
pretty reliable so far.
done about 50-60 so far in the last 18 months…
1x f.o.i & exchange
1x warranty replacement for pcbso failure rate of about 4{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} for me so cant complain atm better than hotpoint 8)
customer service quick to answer but pita to deal with unless you have every bit of customer information under the sun. first time i dealt with them i had to call back 3 times before i had all the info they required to authorise an engineer.
spare parts held in stock are currently pretty sparse atm, but im told this summer is when the majority of components will then be available from stock.
and bdc have risen from the ashes (again?)

old pcb was fine after all too, but it had my doubts as it had obv been running hot as the sticky lable had shrunk and crinkled.
really odd tho – zanussi service manual has high opinion of their self-test prior to washing, which doesnt pick up the dropped connection BEFORE filling. massive design flaw imo, because fortunately the customers were cooking at the time, but had they not been at home or even just in another room, they would have walked back in to a swimming pool rather than a kitchen 😯
id be interested if anyones in the know as to whether zanussi have paid out on any compensation claims, cos out of curiosity when i checked my “parts” 1211, it also had the earth wrapped around the heater connection, so i would be sceptical of it being an isolated incident!

bazinger!
teeny bit loose connection on the heater element. eaarth was wrapped around it and appears to have tugged it a bit.
reseated and a-ok.
now ill just swap pcb back to see if old one was ok.
cheers A/S!

Sometimes you have to question the intelligence of people – last week went round to buy a s/h “bosch of the highest german quality” – sounded good as it was only 6 months old and they wanted £150 for it – bargain till we saw it in the flesh. They were either good actors or totally oblivious, cos they looked quite gutted when we explained it definitely wasnt teutonic and theyd stuggle to get £100 for it.

had one today. husband rung up about 30 mins after i sold a 2 year old bosch classixx to her. “Im really not happy with the price id of expected for £180″ to get at least a years parts and labour warranty on that second hand washing machine”
this was after agreeing with his wife wed fit it and demo it working, and give her 6 months free labour cover on any part failure (exc. bearing failure) and parts are charged at cost. i even threw in a free call out on their current machine as wed be there anyway because if it could be fixed theyd like to use it for the doggy blankets and horse riding kit.

ok worht a go then as i kinda know the customer, and he wants us to have a shot at it. hes after a better deal if he assists me so to get it done quicker, and im imagining that 2 extra pairs of hands will prolly come in handy too.

ParticipantRe: hi fi repairs…
cheers geoff.
one last question (2 actually)
silicone or lith grease?
and
which of the 3 on connect should i get?
is it like dom appliances where one component is the same as all the rest, i.e the “classic” (KSS213B laser assembly konig) is the same part as the “aiwa” (KSS213B laser assembly aiwa) or will they have different laser presets?
only really asking as a: id rather have the part in on wed, rather than wait 4 or 5 months for connect to get it, and the stereo prolly isnt worth more than the £26 the aiwa oem part will cost!
