Mike.hit the nail on the head there some people are on another planet when it comes to simple reasoning. 😆

Jim.
Nice one Jim you tell her, i have been trying to educate people for a quite a while but it falls on deaf ears. some customers dont like being told that their way of operating machines is Wrong 😡 😡

Considering the machine is made from ‘cheap and nasty parts’ in the first place, there is no hope of a solution.
good point, make me chuckle reading that

ParticipantRe: Whats the most annoying thing customers do?
it seems i have touched on a raw nerve here with the whole “women engineers are useless”. just my opinion, cos i cant see how a women is going to cope with the physical demands of this job when pulling heavy applainces about and what do they do when a tumble dryer sits on top of the washing machine they need to repair and nobody is able to assist in lifting it down??

haha dangerous terrority he says i am all for equal rights and that but there are a few things that women cant do as good as men and trying to be an engineer is one of them.
On the other hand they are good “domestic engineers”…i.e cleaners 😆

When they argue about something the ‘call centre’ told them. (It wasn’t the call centre, it was me. Just because I’m female doesn’t mean I’m the call centre.)
When they argue about your diagnosis (it’s the timer! I’m telling you, it’s the timer!) right up until the moment you’ve fitted the element (or pump, or whatever) and it works. Then they’re amazed. 😛
I could go on, and I’m still new to this game. 😉
Women engineers…haha …whatever next???? 😆 😆

ParticipantRe: hotpoint wf
i would fit like for like but as i said suspension defo causes knocking noises on spin

ParticipantRe: bearing tool
what machine would you like the bearing tool for dude??

ParticipantRe: hotpoint wf
true it isnt always the suspension legs but if all else checks out visually and balance weights are tight then i would look at the suspension first. the belt doesnt cause a knocking sound more a tapping but that is a rare one, the belt more often than not causes a squeak on the wash as the drum changes direction. oob loads are a great contributor towards knocking sounds on the spin but is suspension is okay then the chances of this are greatly reduced.
i wouldnt fit cheap and nasty parts to try and solve it either, stick to the manufacturers parts and you have more of a chance of solving the problem…in my humble opinion 😀
with regards to square or round i would replace like for like so on the wf range fit the round legs. and dont forget new pegs because excess movement due to dodgy pegs allows to much movement of the drum during final spin.

ParticipantRe: hotpoint wf
yep i would defo fit new legs and pegs to one machine to see if it solves the problem but i remember in the past having to fit alot of these parts because customer complained of knocking noise on final spin. they were the last thing that myself and alot of other hotpoint engineers would expect to cause the noise but hey ho new legs and pegs sorted it right out. 😀
let me know the result. 😉

ParticipantRe: hotpoint wf
the knocking noise on these models is usually the suspension legs. you can either try applying alot more grease to the legs or simply replace them, this will defo solve knocking noise…in my opinion 😀

ParticipantRe: hotpoint ffa 70
these models suffer from a build up of ice in the duct moulding at rear of freezer. 🙁
firstly check for ice, if it is present get rid with hairdrier.
secondly, replace old fan seal cos these tend to get moist and then freeze up which allows the ice to make contact with the fan and stop it working and also make sure the foam on back of the duct moulding is securely sealed down with foil tape to prevent moisture ingressing and then eventually freezing up.
stats are not replaceable as they are foamed in.
if fault is still present then fit new control module..job done 😀

ParticipantRe: Belling 647 main oven stat wiring change
thanks for the reply. i have to fit a switch pack infront of the new stat. the switch pack has 2 contactors and not having done one of these for a while would appreciate the new wiring layout put in the most simpliest terms possible cos my brain aint firing on all cylinders lately.
i understand what you are saying about the 3 wires on the existing stat being 1. live feed 2. feed to fan 3. feed to element.
so with the switch pack i have to put the fan feed to this and link a live from new stat to the opposite side to which i have connected the fan. does it matter which contactor? or do both make a circuit when the knob is turned to select a temperature?
thank you in advance
