Try a search for “Bosch + Reset” on here and you will find it comes up quite regularly.

    Thanks all

Sounds like it will be worth trying then, we will see how these calls go but it is nice to know they have a good reputation on here.

Mk (and anyone else) – are they still good to work for? I got a phone call today for a couple of jobs.

    Thank you

Note that this is a 3 phase induction motor, therefore it does not need a motor start capacitor, it will have three windings connected in delta (triangular) configuration, this means that you should get exactly the same readings between any 2 of the winding connections. It may be worth taking the main module out and having a good look at it as I have seen a few of these which have gone pop.

In that case I would definatley change “U002” (looks like the switch mode chip and is almost guaranteed to be dead), also I would be checking that “R020” is not open circuit and while I was at it I would run the multimeter across each of the diodes (don’t take them out yet just put the meter on the lowest ohms range and check to see if any show as dead short both ways, if one does then remove it and check again).

does it only do it when run multiple times in quick succession? If so then maybe the pump is overheating and tripping the thermal cut out.

When circuit boards are marked “L” is used as the type mark for an Inductor (choke), if it was a resistor then it would be an “R”.

I don’t know the board in the picture but I would quickly check that “R020” is not open circuit as that looks like a fusible resistor – Do you get any life from the display or is it completely dead?

Have you taken the motor out?
If it is running slow then it may be worth removing the motor and unscrewing the impeller off the end of the shaft so that you can gain access to see the front of the motor, it could be that you will find it covered in gunk and that the front bearing is rusty, if so then you will need to change the impeller seal and front bearing on the motor.

Re: Indesit door boots in general

I got mine from a local ironmongers/general hardware store here on the island – think that they were the 4″ ones from memory, if I remember tomorrow I will measure them and let you know the size. I use them mainly on the Zanussi machines and although they are a close fit they do fit and hold the spring into the groove nicely.

Re: Indesit door boots in general

Whenever I do the spring clamp version I use 2 or 3 of these clamps.
    The method I use is:
    1. Place the seal on the tub then carefully roll the front into the drum.
    2. Now place the spring into the grove (I usually do it on one side) then slide the first spring clamp over the top which will lock the spring in place.
    3. Now I usually pull the spring round the bottom of the seal (this leaves it a more natural/less painful position for my hands to fight the spring later) till I am about 180 degrees round from the first clamp before applying the second.
    4. This now leaves your hands free to fight the spring into the rest of the groove, if it is hard work then use a third clamp a bit further round and move the middle clamp as necessary.

Assuming you can get to the plug then there is no need to even pull the machine out or take the top off.

Hope I written it in an understandable way but that is the gist of how I refit them.

30K Ohms?!…. or should that be 30 Ohms as it sounds rather high if it is 30,000 Ohms and would say to me that that is the fault right there and if that is the insulation reading then it is too low – either way that doesn’t sound right.

Re: Hotpoint EW81 – Tripping RCD When Hot

Turned out that Bazza was right and that it was the element although I am sure that I metered the element at least twice when it was hot without the fault showing, also turned out that this one is a hybrid of the two wiring variations shown in the service manual.

Sounds to me like the triac on the PCB has gone Short Circuit then.

Left hand side between the water tank and the salt/resin tank – It has 2 micro switches on it and you can see instantly if it looks gungy.

You will want to turn off the water supply to the machine then make it fill to empty the water tank, after that undo the one screw that holds the corner block on at the top back of the machine and you should be able to lift the tank up and out of the way then unplug the micro switches and using a finger up underneath un-clip the the chamber and pull it up also disconnecting the hose from it as you go, you will want to clean the hose that leads to from it to the sump as well.
The only panels that you should need to remove are the top, left hand side, kickplate and the little panel along the front behind the kick plate. Just remember to refit the red rod when you put it all back as it is easy to forget (done it more than once and then had to take it apart again to fit it.)
