ParticipantRe: Ageing Engineers
When I was doing apprenticeship as a Marine Engineer I was posted to Falmouth dockyard for six weeks.
An old cargo ship came in that was on its final run to the scrapyards in India.A real rust bucket literally falling apart.
Run by a Swedish company that specialised in taking a final low value cargo to pay for the trip.
Manned by a minimal crew the average age was 74, Captain and Chief Engineer in their mid eighties and the youngest member was 68
All were single or had no dependent family
Logic was that if the ship should get into trouble and sink the compensation payouts would be minimal ❗October 7, 2013 at 12:27 pm in reply to: fisher & paykel ff how to remove side panels in freezer #402288jag-12

ParticipantRe: Maytag MAV9750AGW Top Loader NoSpin
Check the pulley/cam assembly (pt 3 & 4).
The motor reverses to go into spin and the cam rides up the shaft and releases the brake letting the drum spin.
If the brake is not released the motor runs and slips the belt.
If you turn the pulley by hand you should feel it release the brake and start to turn the drumjag-12

Motor bearing on the belt end tends to wear allowing the armature to tip and bind.Motor runs fine on its own but as soon as belt fitted it just sits and hums.
Unfortunately the motors are fixed together with liquid metal and impossible to repair.jag-12
