Bazza point taken but i do get the feeling that manufacturer employed enginers are looked down on as inferior because they dont multibrand.

It was and i thoroughly enjoyed it,If I had my way we would be doing it still as the engineers that worked on this debacle came away better engineers.
I still dont see why it is of relevance who I have ONLY worked for,I am an Electrician by trade but also worked for many years as a gas fitter so I have experience of both sides installing and repairing.

Bagman I have been in Whitegoods for 15 years now (OMG) I started off when it was just Hotpoint,Creda,Cannon(oh happy days)I have had experience of other brands though,Zannussi,AEG,Servis etc,I dont really see what multibrand experience should have to do with it though at the end of the day we are all providing the customer with a service and that should be done with a bit of proffessional competance.
I do know that some of my fellow employees will pass on wrong info to you but i dont think that is malicious i just think that they havent a bloody clue either, some of the people we employ either by direct employment or franchise frighten me at times with their ignorance.
Washdoctor you are right in one respect that we no longer take on employed engineers, but we are also stopping the franchises in a lot of areas, mainly through work dropping off but also because get a good engineer on a franchise and he soon realises he is better off away from Merloni.
I dont know why i have never gone down that route myself definately wouldnt go franchise but what other regular work options are there???
I fix washers, dryers, refridgeration including regassing, cookers, gas cookers, gas fires, electric fires and have also done showers, electric heating and gas boilers.
So convince me what are the benefits of being on the outside p*ssing in rather than on the inside p*ssing out.

Re: “You must be CORGI registered to work on gas”

This is true!!!!! and I might add that CORGI are unlikely to do anything if an installer has fitted an appliance wrong.
A couple of year ago I came across a balanced flue gas fire fit into a chimney breast !!!!!!!!!!! Customer complaint was that it kept going out..
The bloke that fit it worked for British Gas but did the job as a foreigner tried to get CORGI involved but they were not interested in the slightest.

The machine wont necessarily show a fault condition if the heater is open circuit i think you have got a heater problem but as Martin says best get someone in if you are unsure.

One thing i have found with these is that if it has a 2.5kw element on it as they get older and IMO the motors tend to slow down a bit they have a tendency to blow stats i fit the 2.3kw heater to these and usually find it cures the fault.

    Re: Ariston A1436 not draining

If you remove the plinth at the front of the machine you will find an access plug to the pump you will probably find something blocking it.
Drain as much water out as you can first though,if poss tilt machine back slightly and put a smalll dish underneath or some towels as there will be some water still in the machine.

Dave i in no way took offence so no apology is expected,I know that the bulk of posters on here are very reputable, but unfortunately in my neck of the woods we do get a high number of people in ten gallon hats, just as i am aware that we employ some people who shouldnt go near an electrical appliance as their ignorance of test procedures is frightening as has been said there is a lot to be learned from one another.
One thing i would like to point out regarding D&G and that is that we are paid upfront for our repairs and if we exchange an appliance Indesit stump up the cost of it,which is something they are trying to stop all exchanges in my area must go through me in hte hope another engineer will spot the fact that the wool is trying to be pulled over his eyes.

Re: Supply Point Earth Loop Impedance Testing

I use a Seaward tester which is a cracking piece of kit and “compact”enough to keep in my tool case but a lot of my fellow engineers are using the socketandsee testers and finding them easy to use and under 300 quid.
On the question of loop Impedence testing i seem to remember from my apprenticeship that to do this test properly all earth bonds in the property should be disconnected,Indesit started to do Impedence checks then reverted to doing an earth resistance which i think proves existence of a good earth just as well, lets remember we are there to repair an appliance not rewire the house and most comments ive made on an installation are met with a blank look.

The easiest way ive found is pull machine out whip top off it,take back panel off and tip machine back 45 degrees this gives you a lot more room as pulley drops through hole at back.
It is a pig to get wire band back on especially if it is the wire hook type, the secret is a bit of fairy liquid and bent nosed pliers.
    Good luck

Sorry Alex i would love to but i was banned from the trade forums for something that i posted on the Indesit forum, one of the mods took exception to my posting and my membership was withdrawn.
How he got to read it was a mystery as you are supposed to be in Indesits employ but he was reluctant to tell me.
I have the highest respect for a lot of guys who do repairs as independants however up in my neck of the woods we have a high number of cowboys and they get away with murder this is particularly true of the gas engineers, charge a fortune and still dont fix the fault.
Kladave that is commendable to offer such a long warranty im sure you have a good reputation and thrive on it.

Re: Hotpoint UY46 bottem oven not working

You dont have to take the back panel off there is enough length on the cables to do it from inside the oven cavity, just take it easy and you will manage it no probs.
