    Re: Worst Week Ever

With ref. to what Ken said about energy saving I remember back in 1992 I did a bit of investigation into the subject with reference to Hotpoint’s then current promotion of the new Aquarius range. They claimed it saved something like 55{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of something, can’t remember if it was energy or water and some equally dreamlike {e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the other thing. From somewhere I got the figures for their previous machines, possibly from themselves. Doing a careful comparison I found they were comparing the new front loader not with the old front loader, which would have shown a saving more like 5{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} but with the old TOPloader! You know how the water level was in those massive drums. Not hard to use 55{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} less than that and consequently quite a bit less juice too. Misleading the public in advertising is a well established malpractice.

Dryer ntc. Probably one of the wires is broken. Pull gently and it’ll break. And welcome to the site.

Better make it good, Martin. We’ll be safety testing your information before and after reading. 😀

PS, I thoroughly agree with what you say about Trading Standards. They got no teeth anyway, considering what shoddy stuff gets sold. Mostly just jobsworths.

    Re: wasted callouts

I’m hopeless at getting anywhere on time. I used to say “approx. 10 ish” and I’d get there at 10.30 ish. Not often found people not home though. Now I say, “between 9 and 11” and usually get there by five past eleven. They very seldom show any annoyance, usually the contrary. Don’t get more than one “customer absent” in 3 months on average.

Re: Hotpoint Balmoral oven approx. 12 y o, fan ele. Model?

Thanks fellas. I googled it and found someone selling a fan motor to fit it on e-bay. They say it’s BS31C or E and that comes up on Connect as the usual 2500W two turn, so will take one of those along.

Tapping Penguin’s part no. into Connect’s searchbox brings up a stat with the following info,
“Important information. :The thermostats supplied may be dif ferent to the original stat in manufacturer and different ph ysical design it may be 2 tag or 3 tag. We are unable to supp ly any details regarding fitting any stat supplied you Must Contact stoves/belling direct who can supply details speci fic to your model. For model 653H you will also need STV08204389 grill switch.”

PS try 082604389 . Their omission not mine.

Cannot find the model on Connect but looking at diagram of CD242UK it looks like the p/sw tube might be running from the circulation pump outlet point ❓ . It’s a long shot, but if for some reason the motor were revolving in the wrong direction, I could imagine this would result.

There was a whole thread on this some years ago. Each engineer has his preferred method.
From the previous thread I learned that it’s best to poke something flexible (e.g. green plastic coated garden wire) down into the tub gap. Then rotate drum and wire together until item is carried up and drops out under the influence of gravity. Will probably take several attempts. Don’t give up!

Just wondering what happened to this thread? At the time it began, T.T. E.’s was at a low ebb. Now it’s moving so fast it’s difficult to keep up with it. What happened? Does anyone have a credible theory? One maybe that we could test by asking it to predict the next low point?
Would be useful for planning future holidays. 😀

So what do you use to check heater is OK?
(Maybe you need to produce a second PDF on fault finding!)

Maybe. I don’t read newspapers. But I have heard on the radio that judging by recent press releases it is suicide to step outside my front door without an armed guard if I live in the UK.

    Re: ZWD1470w

AEG/Zan/Lux washer driers of recent vintage with the double element with the terminals nearly touching the back of the split cabinet. You have to split the cabinet to get the element out. If it goes just a little bit low on your megger (e.g. 20 MOhm) it will cause the electronics to do strange things. Disconnect it and see if the machine then behaves normally.
