    Re: Make do & Mend

Great minds think alike. Done same several times. Only yesterday, used inner from washer knob on t/dryer knob. Only difference between washer and dryer is dryer uses springy bit of metal on clip whereas washer uses solid bit of metal.
Often repaired broken knobs in the past by drilling small holes and tying bits together with cable ties. Works on door frames too. Even repaired broken hinge once by threading thin wire through holes drilled strategically and twisting ends together.
Stuff learned in the days before the internet and only weekly spares delivery.

Re: AEG LAV6050DIG – CARBON BRUSHES

I don’t know if it’ll be much help really but have you tried looking in Masterpart’s “yellow pages” – the paper home laundry spare parts catalogue? Mine is dated 2005 but I’m sure I only received it last year or this. There are some pics which might help a little if you have the old brush in your hand. Similarly, the old Connect paper catalogue gives OPN’s. Then there’s Qualtex’s “Carbon brush assy ref manual”. Could keep you out of mischief for hours poring over that lot. 😆

It`s amazing though how many motors fail and require repplacing when all you went for was a door seal replacement. 😆

Sometimes they just need taking off and giving a good clean to get the excess carbon dust out.

Thanks for that Lawrence, I won’t bother carting my bearing tools out now. Yeah I’ve seen those pumps before. Not bad really to have lasted so long considering what a budget model they were. Wonder how many other people thought, as I did, that they were just a heap of junk when they first appeared.

If it was 20 miles away maybe I would have the heart to charge that much, usually I halve my call out charge; or even waive payment altogether if it’s a vulnerable person. I expect you do the same; in the long run it’ll probably pay off. I can’t imagine many customers round here calling me ever again if I charged them thirty quid for stepping in the door and out again. I give the machine a quick once over taking five or ten minutes to check the obvious, explain that it may be intermittent and that I may have to call again etc. I only leave when I’ve made this quite clear so that they can’t subsequently think I failed to spot a fault.

As long as you don’t mind uplifting it and bringing it down to Penzance, I’ll have a go for you. 😆
    What’s a San Georgio, anyway? 😕

Not what I wanted to hear! It’s jammed into a utility room hardly wider than itself and sat on a raised plinth under a worktop. 😡
Get your tenner ready, I’ll have earned it. 😆
Had one similar last week, just the door catch broken. Luckily the common type you can get a pattern spare for, Servis door catch kits seem to be shooting up in price.

Why not just cut some standard stuff to length?

have you tried the electrolux spares website http://www.electrolux.co.uk/node302.aspx
You’ll need the product number. They give you exploded diagrams.

Re: How to seperate sealled Drum

Wilf is talking about labour only. I think it may well happen that as time goes on the production of complete sealed drum units will become so normal that they’ll be almost as cheap to buy as a spider and bearing kit.
We’ll be able to wear suits to work when that happens and not get our hands dirty. 😆

Well, I bow to your superior experience. Not going to bet against you on this. I was going to take the pump along anyway (Thursday); maybe it’s safe to leave my bearing tools at home, job’s obviously not urgent anyway. I use the switch on the wall to check pumps in the same way you use the on/off switch, cause I figure the on/off switch will probably burn out if I give it too much work 😆 . Pity you can’t do this so easily with electronically controlled machines.

Re: Servis M301W allegedly “groaning”. V belt?

Still not been back yet (bit out of the way) and she called today to ask if any progress. Discussing it with her I discovered that it only makes this noise when it’s on its second load in succession; first load no noise at all. I think some people don’t have enough to worry about but that aside, I’m thinking it could be the main bearing beginning to go. Had one like that a while back. Cheap as chips as far as the kit’s concerned so I might go prepared to do that.

Or you could use one of the now easily available and cheap plug in energy monitors as mentioned on another thread.
