Heck. I didn’t know that! The one I did a couple of weeks ago I replaced the pitted spider at great expense to my resources of energy and greased the new seal where it fits over the shaft! I suppose I should have debored it to the shaft. 😕

Well, I had asked her on the phone if it was the audio signal and she said, “No, this one doesn’t have one” :rolls:

Re: Servis M301W allegedly “groaning”. V belt?

Well I swapped the pump yesterday and not heard back yet. I’m sure your diagnosis was right. The bearing was sounding fine and the belt looked good too.
The old pump didn’t look quite right. I think what had happened is the “backplate” behind the impellor which normally carries the top bearing had come loose and was presumably flapping around. The top bearing itself seemd OK though and it was very hard to pull out the rotor and there was no sludge in there. So you’ve saved me buying a belt which would not have ever got used and saved me some effort lugging bearing tools around.
I guess I should ask you Rob what your preferred charity is and yours too, Lawrence, and donate some of my ill gotten gains. 😀

Connect will do small orders at £3.50 first class post but you can’t get this over the internet, you have to ring it in on the sales number and make sure you specify it because not all operatives are even aware of the policy.

Well Ken, I did say, “beyond teaching them to use a PC”. By which I meant that in my noble opinion 😆 , it IS worth teaching them to use a computer, but once you’ve done that, let them free to explore. Teaching them to use a computer could, as you suggest, include teaching them to use the internet “wisely”. So it does seem that you are after all agreeing with me.
My main point is that, these days , and it was ever thus since the idea of education for all was brought in, school suits some kids but not others. But they all have to go, like it or lump it. That leads to a lot of bored and disillusioned kids who pay us back by running amok once they’re let out. Half or more of them ending up branded as failures; when in fact every child has potential in one direction or another.
What is the point of teaching thirty kids in a bundle the same thing all together when they want to learn thirty different things? And you don’t really learn anything well unless you want to learn it. Thirty (or thirty million) people with different skills can create a better world than thirty/million people all with the same skill set (national curriculum)learned with varying degrees of enthusiasm.

    Edit:Hooray, I’ve passed the 1500 post mark!

Couldn’t you just get rid of the salt altogether? Or seal up the cap with self amalgamating tape?

Flowmeters have been known to cause such problems. It’ll probably be behind left hand side panel near base. Try pinching up connector first and see if that makes a difference.

Indeed. Waste of time sending kids to school, beyond teaching them to use a PC.

And go prepared for the countersunk pulley bolt with torx (IIRC) head. Give that a tangential tap with a centre punch.

10mm hexagonal headed bolts. You need a good quality socket which is not worn or chamfered because the head is quite shallow and if you round it off you get an extra ten minutes work to do minimum. But they come out much easier than those B*{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}$:/d WMA bolts.

Like checking filters, I usually tell them that one over the phone. I just wouldn’t feel comfortable charging more than a tenner to do that. OTOH, the day may dawn when I have to if I can’t make a living otherwise, but it doesn’t seem likely.
