If you cut and paste that no. into Google and select UK sites only it comes up with one hit, Saffron Electronics. They are wholesalers with a minimum order of £100 but maybe if you e-mail or fax them they might deign to respond with the name of a suitable retailer.

Well, I’ve taken the old one out and brought it home to have a go at repairing it. It’s a complete unit incorporating on/off plus some selector buttons. I had a go in the kitchen (hol. cott. again) but after an hour and a half still only had a half effective repair and nearly lost a spring. What a daft design to put such a vulnerable part as the on/off switch in together with a bank of other stuff. So much for Vorsprung durch technik.

Just done a check on the 140 with a hot air gun. Five minutes gone and it’s still o/c. So I guess they’re OK. (Got plenty of white spots which I can reset).

I agree they are very flimsy. Also applies to several other makes which use mica supports. Don’t see quite how that would cause stat failure though. Take it you’ve checked the usual, i.e. uF, air flow, door not being opened too soon etc..

Thanks for that Geoff. Am going to look at machine tomorrow afternoon. Will know more after that.

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint Thermostat Kit 1703200
I have a pattern part from Masterpart which is I believe listed as equivalent to 1703200. But HP66101 consists of two stats of identical appearance. They are each labelled, printed on the front faces, KSD301 250V 10A. One is further labelled 120. The other 140. These are presumably the temperatures.
So what’s going on here? Is it safe to use these parts?

Sounds good, I’ll have to get my grinder out.

There was a long thread discussing this very problem a few years back. Might be worth a search.
My preference is to use an old tube spanner with the ends hammered into a slight trumpet shape. Works well for me.

Better to charge a little bit too much than a little bit too little. You can always find a way to give it back if you’ve got too much. 😀 Doesn’t help anybody if your business goes to the wall by undercharging.

Have you checked that the plastic timer knob has not been forced on in the wrong orientation? Had a WD where the dryer timer was 180 deg out for this reason.

Might be worth trying a wanted ad in the classifieds forum for second hand. You’ll need a lot of details of numbers off original motor, size and if possible pics. Then you’ll need to wait while those who may have something turn their garages upside down.
Worked once for me.
Remember to turn over your own garage first. Sometimes what you want is in there.
BTW, I’ve got an end frame complete w. toc I’ve been saving for 5 years, if it’s any use?

E82 and E83 refer to selector reading errors though. It might be worth trying some servisol switch cleaner in there.

OWI = turbidity sensor. Never seen one myself but have had an f11 on a machine that didn’t have one 😕 .
It is widely written that if you give the black grid in the side of the sump (which you can get to after removing the filter screen/s) a gentle but thorough clean with a toothbrush that this will often sort it.

Went back to this today. Put it on again for quick check before dragging out….. drum not moving again.
So straight for the brushes which were dual tag type, and that was it! I would not have believed it. I had remembered doing them before and didn’t realise that was four years ago. Turns out they use the machine “about three times a day” (washing for the family plus a holiday cottage). No wonder I’ve had such a lot of work out of that machine over the years!
So The Antarctic Bird gets two points for getting in first with the right answer and saving me some time again.
Philfish gets one point for backing Chris up on this; and rolf, A1, lerch and waters half a point each for your helpful contributions. Many thanks,
