Oh yeah, I get those all day long; I was hoping for something more like chocolate cream cakes or something. 😥

BTW, board for that machine is about £200 I think and AFAIK Tony doesn’t stock them, so where does that take us with our quality philosophy?

A cobbler mends shoes and cares not a jot if they are Loafers or Jimmy Choo’s. To him if they’re fixable he will get on with it …. To him the poorer the build quality the more likely the need for his services.

That’s a well chosen analogy, Martin. But I dsagree with the last sentence.
Cobblers don’t bother trying to fix cheap shoes any more than we try fixing kettles and toasters. For obvious reasons. So, TBH, it’s self interest, as much as anything, which makes us promote the quality machines over the cheapies. That is, we don’t want to go the same way as the cobblers.

I am 99{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} certain that there should be 240v or thereabouts to open the valve. (I’ve replaced these funny ones with universal types in the past, changing the connectors). So it sounds like there’s a fault in timer/module or the cable harness/connector or perhaps an earth leak somewhere?

On the other hand water valve faults on these are quite common IME so perhaps it’s worth trying in a new (standard, cheap) one and put the strange volts down to a mystery.

PS. Wow! I’ve made it to super user! Is there a prize?

Drum out the back – like Zanussi split tub, you’ll need a bit of space.

Another approx 30{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} needs a simple repair with under £30 worth of parts needed to get it sorted.

So, 60-70{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of what people are chucking out has virtually bog all wrong with it. But they weigh up what an engineer costs or rather, what they think it will cost, then decide to just get a new one.

I wonder if you’ve put those staggering facts in the public side, Ken?
I daresay you have, I just don’t often look there.

Today I went to see an old lady with a Candy she’d had for about ten years. The spider was busted and the drum rubbed on the door seal and she got smoke when she opened the door. She asked me if I recommended anything as a replacement. I asked her how many loads a week. She answered one, occasionally two. I explained that I don’t give recommendations because of some bad experiences in the past when I recommended something and had to go back to BER it a couple of years later. I did give her a short verbal list of some makes to avoid. I then suggested she see what deals are available in the sales as I don’t see much point in the poor old dear laying out £400 to do one load a week.
The important thing IMO is to LISTEN to the customer.

Had a Servis do exactly this on me today.Encouraging the door made no difference. Decided as the customer didn’t want to spend a lot that it was best to cut a small hole in the door trim so he could give the striker the extra little push needed with a pen.

Did you check to see if power was getting to valve(s)? (I know it’s fiddly with those tiny connectors). And were valve filters clean and H2O pressure enough to open cold valve? Definitely sounds like some problem in that area. How often have you come across a Bosch module/timer causing such a fault?

If the customer’s happy with a re-con module then it’s got to be EMW and return the one you don’t need.
