Europart 14-ER-16 apparently but I can’t get a price as I don’t have an account! Good picture here though.

Re: Hoover Tumble Dryer Noisy Drum Rollers

Is it one of those with the cabinet wrapped round which is a nightmare to get into? If it is, I’d abandon all hope. I bought rollers set for about a fiver a couple of years ago from Connect. I still have them. Spent about an hour and a half getting halfway into machine and finally gave up and re-assembled before it became irreversible! Customer subsequently claimed it was quieter anyway 😕 , and was still using it when I last went there about a year ago.

    Re: New World grill element

Put number into Google. 011561400 shop@ £36.52 excl., elementman £28.95 incl vat and p&p. Not gone further than three results so could be cheaper elsewhere. Great thing about cheaper retail suppliers is they have high element turnover so it’s usually fresh stock.
I only spend £150 / month with Connect and they’re still keen to keep me. I’ve got accounts with MPT and Qualtex too but usually end up using Connect because they have more in stock. Often use ebay for odd one offs. And today placed my first order with Mytub because they offer a certain WHP thermostat to the public at a price about half the cost of any of the above wholesalers who are anyway out of stock!

in reply to: call out / labour fee phone speech ?? #342579

Re: call out / labour fee phone speech ??

I only state my charges if asked or if I have any doubt that they may be able / willing to pay or if I think they sound like the sort of people who may be expecting a free call. If they ask, and it’s a job I’m keen to do (e.g. two doors down, WM series interlock) then I divert the conversation by asking more details about the fault etc. By the time they’ve answered my questions they have usually forgotten about cost (which I then tell them anyway, since they asked); they want me to do the job. I think most customers can sense I’m interested in the appliance and keeping it running if not BER, and that with me payment is not at the front of my mind. If it’s a job I’m not keen to do (e.g. Indesit F8 10 miles away) they get full info about likely repair cost before anything else!
I don’t know if that is something you can achieve so easily in a larger business.

I did. Didn’t look as bad as I’d imagined although bad enough. In a way, it could have been worse! You could almost say wray was lucky he didn’t lose his hand altogether.

    Re: Busy or what??

Thanks Neil. Had a look at your link. Bit more sophisticated than what I have in mind. And this gave me a laugh:
“we carry out many repairs for some of the biggest electrical companies in the country, names that we all know and trust, such as Curry’s, Argos and many more.” 😆
Then the video panel not only displayed a totally pointless (to my way of thinking) 2’19” clip of hyper self-praise which gave the customer absolutely no useful information whatsoever and risked boring them into ditching the site, it also gave the customer a link to any number of U-tube related clips about how to do their own repairs! 😆
I think your own site is a much better example of how to do it. (That’s putting myself in the customer’s shoes but I’m not exactly a typical customer, I suppose.)

in reply to: Miele error codes – can you or can you not reset them? #342284

Re: Miele error codes – can you or can you not reset them?

I can’t imagine they would have intentionally created a situation where every, or even just some, blocked filter necessitated an engineer’s visit. That would be counter productive to their reputation in the long run. And no-one could deny that Miele are in it for the long run!
But I could believe that it might have happened unintentionally, due to design of electronics to inactivate machine until more serious faults have been cleared.
It’s a bit sad though that Miele apparently keep such a tight grip on their personnel’s dangly bits. Shows how scared they are by the prospect of a new climate of open-ness.

    Re: Busy or what??

Good point, George. There are also other factors to consider such as demographics and internet usage. Still, I was only looking to get a vague idea. The only way to find out for sure is to bite the bullet.
I already get a few customers from the internet via various free directories so it will be worth me setting up a page of info just to test the water.

I think the lack of any response probably tells you one of two things, either it’s true and they don’t want to comment or, they don’t think it’s important enough to comment. Either way, it looks bad.

There is of course a third possibility, it’s not there, yet.

    K.
If their machines are guaranteed for five years, sometimes ten, parts and labour*, then I suppose they have a valid reason not to release any info on any model for which the guarantee has not expired. To do so would encourage unqualified interventions which could complicate the work for company engineers and invalidate those guarantees.
    (*Do I have that right?)
