So, basically, everyone sits on their hands and Whirlpool has taken it upon itself to sort out the situation. It was ever thus when recalls or safety notices are issued here on planet UK.

Yes the commutator wears of course and a carbon brush groove is all too apparent on closer inspection. The armature commutator can be easily refurbished and the groove smoothed out using a ‘commutator bedding stick’. Readily available from many spares web sites and easy to impliment. 😀

Yes you need a new fan, but a squirt of 3 in one on the motor end frame bearings might be a get out of jail card?

The most recent ‘heat pump system’ dryer has lessened the chances of fire as they don’t use open wire coiled heating elements.

Usually it’s a throw away item. What model number is it anyway?

But have you bought a configured or non configured PCB? What is the part number of it? ServiceForce are the only guys able to do a software configuration by the way.

Rest easy Twicknix, don’t lose any sleep over this. Your customers aren’t going to be getting a refund. Heed the advice, you haven’t sold any new dryer that wasn’t fit for purpose. In spite of your misgivings there’s no blame on you therefore no claim.

How can a tumble dryer that, the manufacturer states is safe to continue using, be proven by your customer as ‘not fit for purpose’ and therefore have any right to a full or partial refund from you?

Why would you even consider it? How would you work out the degree of depreciation once it is out of the manufacturers warranty anyway?

MSE’s advice on contacting the retailer is a nonesense in this case. The dryers are still fit for purpose, the recall only a safety precaution.

You’ll need to remove the back panel and undo the fixing nuts on the outside in this case.

I would advise caution here when messing with gas appliances. My guess is that the OP has little or no experience dealing with gas repairs. Always but always consult a Gas Safe approved repairer to carry out such work.

There are two types of electronic control board, configured and non configured. With the former there is no set up required but for the latter it requires special software configuration. The fully configured PCB is part no: 973916094507019

Love your grammer by the way, but I’m sure that (perhaps) you can elaborated more in support of Helo_75. So we may get a fuller picture, as it were, of your viewpoint?
