Single Bosch ovens are rubbish IMO. The self clean Zanussi on Very is a far better buy.

My preference would be a Stoves oven, not self clean But if you get into the habit of wiping the oven out once it’s cooled down much like you would clean a dinner plate after a meal the oven will stay sparkling clean even after many years faithful service.

The fan assembly (00491685) is £79.57. Cable harness (00491604) is £13.36. So that’s replacing what I see damaged from your photo shots. Aside from that the grill element connectors look as they need attention. Each and every element need testing for earth potential. The cooling fan looks on its last legs (00492871 @ £60.71).

The big concern is, has the main circuit board (00491615 @ £152.68) taken a hit as a direct result of the fusing? Hmmm?

Oh dear! Pretty messy but ultimately fixable if you want to go to the expense that is? How far do you want to take this?

It’s not a standard fuse and it could have failed due to old age. But, as yet we are purely speculating a possible cause, nothing more.

Probably the thermal fuse on the top of the oven has blown up. Isolate from consumer unit before dragging it out and lifting the top panel. :zap:

You could possibly do a fair amount of washing in 6 months but would cost you a lot more than 100 quid at a laundrette. So worth a punt I suppose and if it lasts more than 6 months then every wash load will be a bonus. 😉

Noggin wrote:if there is a gas supply, a new tap, and new thermo – what else id there to cause such a problem??

I have to say Noggin does have a point (sorry I don’t know the answer by the way as I don’t touch gas, oh hell no). But as an uneducated guess I would point the finger back to the thermocouple (I assume by the way a ‘thermocouple’ you refer to is what I term as a ‘Fail Safe Device’ (aka FSD)????)

If that “thermocouple” fitted in the one example you cited then perhaps the ones you are fitting are faulty or the wrong ones?

As far getting in a ‘Gas Safe’ engineer to sort it. You’ve already taken that route with limited or no success. You have proclaimed your ability to rectify the problem. It’s your problem after all. You now take the responsibility over a potential life or death situation as far as gas appliances go.

The advice here is to seek professional help. I respectfully suggest you heed that .

The eBay example will not fit, so avoid the temptation. The diagnosis from both myself and the visiting repairman concur so at least collectively you (possibly?) 90{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} sure of a solution. However to reach a conclusion might involve a costly final step.

You could remove the timer and post it off to EMW Electronics for them to either repair or replace OR you could do what, in essence,is your best option. Dump it and get another machine.

They are conventional thermostats (not thermistors). Generally very reliable but in this case one or both of them are faulty. OR the other possibility is that the timer itself is at fault in that the internal ‘holding solenoid’ is not releasing as it should. (Not fixable without replacing timer).

What is the MODEL number of this machine anyway?

twicknix wrote:out of curiosity, what are the typical signs of capacitor failures on Hoover dryers?

Same as any other make of dryer…..the motor won’t turn!

It’s a common or garden 8uf capacitor. You should always carry a couple on your van. Along with a couple of 4uf, 7uf, 12.5uf and 16uf and your ready for most eventualities.

As for misdiagnosing, rather than fitting a new motor, try a capacitor first.

wizard wrote:Not true Martin ! Do the threads go the opposite way on each end of a lenghth of metal studding ?

Of course the thread goes one way as does the coil on any vent hose. The issue here is that at one end you will need to screw the threaded plastic adapter coupling clockwise and on the opposite end of the hose an adapter would need to be threaded anti-clockwise.

Much like a clock face. From the outside the hands go clockwise. Looking from the inside and they go anti-clockwise.

    Have you got it now?
