I guess you’re not then looking at the appliance to know what the PCB track feeds to? Instead you just have a PCB on a workbench? So there’s a good chance of fixing the board but and unless the culprit is replaced you could potentially be back to square one? That’s also on the assumption that the pre-programmed microprocessor hasn’t been corrupted in the meanwhile. 🙁

Just a word of caution but induction jobs a notoriously unreliable in the long term. (i.e they fail just out of warranty and repairs are costly).

Gas hobs by the same token are far far more reliable, do not require fancy pans, are very very controllable and last forever.

You’ll be kicking yourself if you didn’t stick to gas. Mark my words. 😉

It’s nice to know who has time to lounge around supping free coffee and the odd biscuit.

In the trade we generally do not go down to components at board level. But rather inspect the circuit (PCB track) to see to what component it leads to ( i.e Motor, pump, door lock etc) to give a clue as to what blew the board. Then factor in the cost of a replacement board as well as the guilty component as to whether a repair is economically viable.

Good luck with sourcing a replacement resistor meanwhile.

Not in the least Jon. I too am a Yorkshireman though exiled down here Hampshire.

You take care and if you need any help I will always strive to help where and when I can. As for the ‘Appliance Master’ tag, that was involuntarily put on me by one Kenneth Watt esq. the administrator of this fine web site. I have no influence over his droll sense of humour in giving me that title.

    All the best

Sarcasm? You asked if you needed to check if water was flowing through the condenser.

Re: Bosch SGS45C12GB/16 Dishwasher Not Heating Problem

So let’s recap on your problem.

You changed the control unit (though haven’t said for what reason as yet)
You measured the resistance of the heater yet didn’t Megger it. (If there were any problems with the heater the Megger test would highlight it)
Yet because you realised no power was going to the heater then testing its insulation potential was unnecessary. (Although you did ask us if the heater could have blown the Control unit).

So now we know the connections between the two are in order and the control unit is new. So please allow me to ask : When you were live testing for power to the heater, did you have it set on ‘Quick Wash’ where the heater would be live the moment the water starts circulating or was it set on ‘Normal Wash’ where there would be no supply unless you waited 20 minutes into the cycle?

    😀

jontymox wrote:I didn’t Megger the heater for two reasons; there is no voltage being supplied, and I’m unsure how to Megger the element without connecting one of the test leads to the element itself.

You’ve been in the trade at least 6 yrs and you don’t know how the Megger a heater?

I appreciate your honesty and might I therefore offer you some help in how to Megger anything, including heaters, explained in detail from the link below. Contained in that link is a .pdf file I created a few years back for those that needed that extra help in Basic Electrical Safety Testing……….. 😀

Oh now surely this is the way forward guys. A dual machine that washes your skids and frillies on the top deck whilst washing your designer Levi’s and towelling robes below. Both Haier and LG are pioneering the concept that has gone down well to the Europeans at the show in Berlin. Very soon Currys and AO will be carting them from warehouse to delivery van just in time for the Christmas and New Year madness.

These babies are controlled remotely via your iPhone, so customers can monitor the progress of their smalls from their office desk. How fab is that eh?

Picture the scene at JTM’s call centre………..

…..”Hi, sorry to bother you, but I’m in my office wanting to turn on my delicates cycle. The towels on the bottom deck are done and it told my iPhone that the cycle has just ended. I’ve got some washing on the top deck that will crease if I don’t get them out as soon as I am home. So I need to tell the machine to start the cycle but for some reason it won’t. Can you help?

You need to replace the pump. At 5 yrs old it’ll be worn out.

jontymox wrote:The heater itself gives a good Ohms reading, but I haven’t removed it to Megger it yet.

You don’t have to remove the heater in order to Megger it. If you tested its resistance in ohms why didn’t you check its earth resistance while you were at it?

jontymox wrote:I wonder if the heater may be shorting, and has blown the new module too?

I’ve not come across a control module that has been blown by the heater. Why did you change the control module incidentally, I’m curious to know?

And have you checked the thermostat/NTC on the heater unit.
