Remove the rear fan then thread belt around the drive shaft.

That being the case then a wire/connector block has probably got displaced. Time to check and double check all connections.

Probably the brushes are arcing? If so you could do serious damage if not checked. The brushes have to make a good clean contact with the commutator and the commutator has to be clear of excess carbon dust and each segment clean and smooth with no uneven surface or blackened areas.

As you know there was an official recall on some later models. Your machine is much older but uses a similar PCB where the heater terminals overheat.
