From memory, it was on a clip attached to the dispenser on the inside of the door panel. Bear in mind these were so and so’s for breaking the door wiring, and that aged the timer may well be dodgy.

    Luck,

    Marti,
Please sign up as a member – we appreciate all imput, but if we like to know who we’re dealing with!

Timer faults are unusual with these machines – it is possible – I would get the wiring sorted first and ensure that the water level control system is fully functional before the expensive investment in a timer.

Do nothing yourself without pulling the plug first.

Good result, pms. The prong things fit around the hinges at the bottom of the door, to prevent the door outer panel getting stove in.

There was a time when service engineers, even company ones, were taught to repair things. These days, it is quicker just to slap a new (still flawed!) bit in and expect the customer to pay for this “service”.

    Stacey,
The undertray will be flooded and the float safety switch activated. The tray must be drained and the source of the leask traced. If you are not confident, check repairs@ukwhitegoods.com or Directories for a UKW emgineer in your area.

Re: Indesit Dishwashers and their Problems

Well, you’ve got a hatful Mel, assuming your error codes are the same as ours. 2 is element out of circuit (or blown), 5 is the water level switch not responding, 8 is motor out of circuit and 14 is syphoning (drain hose too low). It could all be caused by fill problems, it could be the computer being as mad as a hatter. How brave are you? Oh, it could be broken wires in the door, but unlikely in my experience……….

    Pull the plug first……. Please.

    Re: LICENSE FOR BURNER DESIGN

Curious place for a serious discussion. Possibly the most On Topic discussion for a couple of weeks……….

    Consider this –

A Far East gas hob, say £20 ex-works. Material cost, minimal. Labour costs, minimal. A licence fee payable to the burner licensee – 50p a unit??, so a couple of quid. Container it round the world – on cost of say £2 a unit (You can stuff LOTS into a container…..). UK import duties and VAT? The hob is landed in the UK for £30, max. Assuming that our favourite retailers are using an agent, they need to make a profit. So our agent sells on to C@m3t for £45 – a handsome 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} profit of £15. Now, the clever bit is, that C@m3t lay the guarantee back to the agent……..

A typical bulk purchase would be something like 10,000 units, scheduled over a year. The good news is that a deal like this includes 1{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} free spares. These typically are Users Manuals, polystyrene and cardboard packing, polythene covers, ANYTHING but a practical spare part. And, before anyone says anything, I’ve been there, done that and got the autographed tee shirt. C@m3t learnt during my time with them that you don’t try and deal with remote manufacurers direct. You use an agent, then all the problems are their fault, not yours.

SO – agent is now responsible for 10k units. Euro standards allow for 2/3{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} failure in the guarantee period. Agent orders up functional spares accordingly. By my rough reckoning, that’s about 300 of each chosen component. As we all know, the production costs now go out of the window, ostensiably because components must now be identified, packed, labelled and counted against an order, so your 30p gas tap now costs £1.50. 6 parts to a burner, 4 burners, ignitors, couple of gas rails, taps, seals, ignition units, leads and of course, knobs. This basic list now comprises 47 components, just to keep the appliance safe and functional. Basic spares stock bill now stands at £21,150. Not too bad out of the £150,000 gross that the importer is turning. Then, a few months down the line we discover what the real problems are. The cosmetics start to discolour, the hob top starts to flake – just how many ignition buttons are we going to get through………. and the spares are 12 weeks away. Airfreight…… Ever airfreighted lumps of brass? Horrific, truly scary. Gas taps are now costing at least £10 a throw.

Oh, and you’re paying for service. Our retailer has sold the appliance for, say £150. They’ve just put £105 in their pockets, with no comebacks. Now, our importers margin is being seriously eroded by the failure rate of this appliance running at nearer 10{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} than 3{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}, shortfalls of spares being made up the expensive way, and he hasn’t got a service network. Time to find a service provider……… We all moan that we can’t get £40 a call, in the full knowledge that of what we do get, someone is making £6-10 a call handling the work; giving our agent a cost of at worst £50 a call. At a 10{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} failure rate, servicing for these 10k hobs will run out at £50,000, plus the price of the parts. Agent will immediatley respond by trying to make margin on the spares, service provider will now write-off appliances as Beyond Economic Repair, replacement required. Retailer will charge this back to agent at retail plus costs. By the end of the year, they’re running at a loss……… and we all know what happens next, don’t we?

Add to that international business practice of buying in the far east on International Letters of Credit, you have significant sums of money tied up 3 to 4 months in advance, your cash flow is absolutely screwed.

And so another attempt to bring product in from the far east sinks gently in the west, to the wailing and gnashing of teeth of another generation of customers who bought on price rather than quality. And our friendly High Street retailer? Well they made £1,050,000 gross, and no comebacks.

    Great, isn’t it?

    Chris.

    Matt,
Please post model number (bottom right of control panel), also count the flashes (ie, 1234, gap, repeating), as these ar a form of error finding code.

    Re: ariston magerta 2000a

    Laura,
If you have waited the two minutes at the end, the doorlock should have released. If you can feel resistance on the handle, the lock is holding in the locked position. A sharp tap on the casing adjacent to the door handle will sometimes shock it free. If there is no resistance on the handlle and it moves full distance, the handle will be broken.

Either way you will need to replace one of these components, so check in repairs@ukwhitegoods.com or the Directories for a UKW repairer in your area.

    Re: dishwasher locked shut

    Jake,
The “turn-over” latch in the door has broken. You could force it (it will have to be replaced anyway), or you can slip the machine forward and undo the “striker” on the dishwasher roof. When freed, the door will open with the striker still attached.

If you can advise the model and serial number spares@ukwhitegoods.com will be able to identify and supply a replacement for you. The numbers are (of course 🙄 ) on the edge of the door…………..

The float switch is on the UNDERTRAY of the machine, ie the bottom cover underneath. If you are not confident removing panels, it may be time to get some pro help. Check repairs@ukwhitegoods.com or the Directories section for a UKW engineer in your area.
