Switch on the machine and within 3 seconds, press the programme button 4 times. Lamps 1 + 5 should be lit. Press button once, so as only one lamp is lit. Switch off. Switch on and run the rinse cycle.

It’ll be a max temperature set-up in that case. It will run the hot valve, then add cold to achieve the wash temperature. Bit basic, but it does mean that you won’t get the infamous F8 code!

    Good luck with it.

It’s a Whirlpool with a badge on the front. Four flashes is no drain detected in the time allowed. This does not neccessarily mean that it hasn’t drained, just that the machine doesn’t know it.

If there is water left in your appliance, you have a blockage or the drain pump has failed. If it’s empty, you need to look at the water level indivator. This is the black grid in the sump under the filters at the 3 o’clock position. It has a bad habit of filling up with congealed fat deposits and sticking in the full position. Plenty of hot water and scrubbing with an old toothbrush may clear it. If not, it can be removed from underneath – it’s a twist fit. There is a microswitch on the back – the spring in the switch can fail or go “soft” and then not reset. If this is the case, you need THIS FELLOW.

Power off before working on the appliance.

Narrow the search…… ‘fdw60 AND heater’ for instance, will be more precise and produce fewer results. The AND in block capitals is crucial.

Nice pics. This machine is an Indesit build, with the Philco-style tank in it. The bump in the tank to the right of the motor is where the heater would be fitted and isn’t.

You need to get that motor stabilty bracket secured, BTW or the motor can break off the brackets.

The white disc on the rear of the drum is a thermistor, this is your temperature sensor. There should be a couple of wires attached.

I presume that the machine is hot and cold fill – it might be worth checking the resistance through the solenoid coil on the hot valve to ensure that hot water can enter the machine. You should get a reading in kOhms.

Select spin with the filter removed and see if the pump actually runs.
