The Indesit Company recommend the upper basket be only used in the high position, if no improvement, replace the top rotor. P/no C00075746, spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk will get you one promptly.

Broken wiring in the door pivot point should be your first port of call.

If you pop the door open quickly, is there water spraying from the rotors?

Do this early in the programme or use the rinse programme to avoid getting sprayed with hot water.

The standard (endemic) problem is underfilling.

If you have the machine pulled out and the l/h cover off and start a programme, typically, the machine will drain for about a minute and you will see water pulsing through the rear portion of the matrix.

It should then start to fill. If it’s working properly, the central column of the matrix will fill, then water will overflow down the front channel and through the chamber with the the pressure switch and the hose. The water level will rise in the machine and water will accumulate in the chamber, eventually causing the blue arm to move across and work the switch. Circulation should start at this pont.

The suction of the circulation motor will cause the water level to drop and fill should continue until sufficient water enters the machine to activate the pressure switch a second time. If it’s all working properly, the water level should finish 1/3 -1/2 way up the salt cap inside the machine.

You shouldn’t need to remove the base for testing purposes. There is only the one level sensor.

Re: Has my NEFF S5456 died?

Arr – fully integrated. Do the obvious first – hopefully the power socket is not behind the machine, so plug something else into it and see if it works. It’s a surprisingly common failing these days.

Without dragging the machine out, you can access the pcb and the on/off switch. The decor door has to go and you will need a test meter to check the function of the on/off switch using the continuity mode. Pcbs occasionally burn out joints or just simply fail. Burnt-out joints are pretty simple to spot.

As for the suppressor, it’s in the bottom at the back, so machine out, r/h side panel off and look for scorching or black deposits.

No easy answer to this one, I’m afraid.

    Stay safe, power off,

Switched on at the wall, or at the machine itself? Is it instantaneous or can you programme it?

Impossible question – Whirlpool don’t make their own slimlines. Could be SMEG, could be Bosch.

Model number or 12nc (better) required if you want an answer.

It won’t spin because it thinks that it’s still full of water.

Check that the air hose to the level switch is not kinked or trapped and that you can blow down it with minmal resistance. If all clear, the problem lies with the pcb – the level switch may be stuck or the pcb itself may not be reading the switch signals. Either way, you’d need to replace it.

Re: Hotpoint TDC30 no heat but thermostats OK

Relay is purely a start/run device. Heater is switched directly through the timer, which is why the contacts burn out…….

You need to track the wiring back to the relevant contacts on the timer and measure from there.

    Power off first, of course.
