Rasping noise is likely to be a foreign body. Squealing, grating noises are more likely to be pump on it’s way out.

Filter is in the black hose under the drum, behind the access panel at the rear. I’ll bet you find the drive belt down there too!

    Power off before going in.

Something caught in the wash pump, perhaps?

It’s a cow to work on – very awkward access from under the machine and getting the hose clips to re-seal is tricky.

Power off if you do feel the urge to go in.

Alternator valve. Cheap fix is to remove plunger.

Oddball machine – it is actually a SMEG with the Candy badge on it. A read of THIS ARTICLE may prove informative; failing that, “illogical” problems always come back to the pcb.

    Re: Hotpoint WD440P motor problem

Outer doughnut is tacho generator coil. Inner doughnut is the tacho magnet, which should be a firm push fit onto the end of the shaft. The magnet turning within the coil acts as generator, the pcb reads the signal and uses it to monitor motor speed.

Motor out of circuit will prevent the machine from powering up.

Classic computer board failure. I’d move on, just out of warranty or not.

Thermistor (temperature sensor) is open circuit. Can be sensor, wiring or pcb.
