The re-set procedure is specifically to clear a flow meter problem and is not appropriate in this circumstance.

Holding down the button cancels the programme – lights 4 + 5 indicate that the programme is finished.

I suspect that you are describing a blockage. Try setting the programme to the Rinse setting and see if the drain pump runs – this is the first action of any programme. If it doesn’t run, bail the machine out. The drain pump is accessible through the front lower cover.

    Power off first.

Static heat on these older ones. Fill to level 1, tumble to heat position – all stops ’til temperature is reached. You can often hear the element “kettling” whilst the machine is heating.

Air bell runs off the side of the drum to filter hose – tip the machine back to have a look.

    Power off first, of course.

Looking at the pic in the repair kit, the door sits on the two rods pictured top left. The door is a push fit onto them. You have to lift the door up and off. Simple, honest.

Take them out and clean them? Probably a better bet is to unclip the rotors and get them flushed out, making sure that the holes are all clear.

Always best to describe the lights L-R, 1-5. If I understand what you’ve tried to explain correctly, the lights do not represent an error code.

It’s a SMEG-built machine, so a read of THIS ARTICLE may prove educational.

    The repair kit is HERE.

The trick is to use two thin screwdivers through the hole in each upper (moving) hinge bar. This locks the mechanism and the door can be lifted up off the lower rods. A fair bit of force may be required…..

There is a short reverse tumble.

Loose fan on motor is possible – check under heater housing. Mind you, they usually make a noise when they start to slip.

Heater should read approx 25 ohms. The blue sleeve contains a one-shot thermal safety device, so the heater will have to be replaced if there is no circuit.

You need to check the water level control system, especially the airbell in the bottom hose for blockages.

    Replacement element is HERE.

Re: Dryer thermostat keep blowing, and the higher temp one t

Green spot is a one-shot, the other is a cycling stat; ie opens and closes to regulate the temperature.

The only thing you haven’t mentioned is, that if the motor stops after running for a while, the airflow will stop and the temperature will soar – ping.

Before replacing the stats again, load it up and keep an eye on it, making sure that the motor keeps running.

No need to carp on about it.

No fish yesterday. I did receive a rather fine cricket book called “Penguins Stopped Play” (and they did..) – hilarious. The boys got a game called “Pictureaka” which features a motorised, card dealing penguin. Looks like rather fun.
