    Re: Bosch Bearing Kit

Thanks Dave + thanks to Masterpart for enabling a cost effective repair rather than another machine on the scrap heap.

A customer gave me a bicycle spoke the other day, that has similar applications.

Re: Can anyone repair Gas appliances as long as they don’t..

You can install or repair a gas appliance for yourself as long as you get a Corgi engineer to do the gas bits. As for paying customers you should not entertain any requests to repair gas tumble driers, dual fuel cookers etc.

Yes, I had an unusual one this morning. Zanussi FL1081 keeps doing a quick burst (2 seconds or so) of full spin during the wash and starts filling at the same time. Customer says it does it at the same times on each wash so I am working on the basis that it’s a timer fault rather than a chafed wire etc. It turns at the correct speed most of the time and the tacho magnet / coil seem OK.

That’s the trouble with these cut and shut repairs, sometimes the welding won’t hold.

    Re: Bosch Bearing Kit

Getting more confused now 😕 I was looking at the Masterpart catalogue and they list it under BS05109, which shows WFF and WFB models. I now see the model also appears in the list of models for kit BS05103 and kit 093907, which comes with 3 bolts. Just noticed that Connect list a retail price for the bearing cross of about £280 :rotfl:

Full marks for staying power, I think I would have told them their machine had reached the end of its useful life 😈

That’s interesting about the different material seals. I have a customer with a bowling alley and the polish stuff they use wrecks the seals, makes an oily mess.

    Re: Tax question

I’m not sure if the way I finance my van is acceptable from a tax point of view. I purchase, tax, insure and maintain the van out of my personal money but claim the petrol used for business driving as an expense for the business. To my mind, I provide free use of my private vehicle to the business. At the moment I am using an estate car instead of the van. If the vehicle was a business asset, would a car be treated differently to a van. I don’t wan’t the taxman to tell me I have a company car and give me a huge tax bill 😯

If the resetable TOC has tripped it’s usually a fan motor problem. Are you sure there is not another thermal fuse you have overlooked?

Re: One for the Hotpoint specialists

I find those Hotpoint pressure vessels always leak when I put them back on. I don’t understand why as it’s just an O ring seal the same as on Zanussi drain pumps, which never seem to leak. 😕 I routinely put silicone round the O ring now.

Could it be the interlock can cope with the load from just the valves but is throwing a wobbly when it gets the additional current for the motor?

They must live somewhere remote. There are still people who live a loch crossing plus 2 hours drive from the nearest supermarket on the west coast.

    Re: Unbelievable!!

Obviously they are free to use your company name if you did not have it registered. If they are not competing with you for customers then you may be unable to prove that they are doing anything damaging to your profitability, reputation etc. We have something similar in Elgin. There was a firm called Elgin Appliance Centre that closed down then another chap came and opened a shop just called Appliance Centre, so most people think they are dealing with the old established firm.
