ParticipantRe: Tricity Bendix D/W DH102
Have ordered the pressure switch so at least I will be able to rip the old one apart and check for burnt contacts.

It could be worse Pat, you could be hundreds of miles away from all the stockists, apart from one rather crummy Qualtex agent who operate from a shed behind a Glasgow pub 😀

ParticipantSeme
I started using Seme because they are the main spares source for certain makes of microwave. I therefore tend to try them first for microwave stuff. It’s OK if the item you want is listed but If you phone to enquire about a part number you wait a few days minimum for an answer. Usually, by the time they tell me the part number I have sourced the part elsewhere and completed the repair 🙄

ParticipantRe: Carriage charges for spares delivery
Yes, I like Seme, I wish I could use them more but such a lot of quite common parts are on special order so I often end up getting the whole lot somewhere else. At least you know with Seme that you are paying the same as everyone else as the prices are on the CD. With Homespares I was once given the wrong price list by mistake and was amazed how much cheaper the stuff is for their bigger customers.

The ones who are not too busy changing nappies are too busy mucking out horses. 😉

I would try negotiating your own terms with them, it worked for me 8)

I would rather set them all at 1000rpm, the 1200s shake themselves to bits 😉

I think I must have missed the plot here. Why run a public forum if you don’t think members of the public should do their own repairs? I have been advising people on the Ezee-Fix site for a couple of years now and find you can usually tell which ones are worth helping and which ones will only make matters worse. As for selling spares, I do offer people tips like bending back the tabs on Hotpoint brushes but I only give general guidelines on things like bearing changes. I used to suggest to people with dead ovens that they make sure the timer is on manual but now I go and show them and collect a call-out fee 😈

It’s interesting to see on this site how different people struggle with different jobs. I’ve never had any bother with fitting WMA belts but it would take me ages to fit a Zanussi door seal if I didn’t take the drum out. I have noticed on the smaller Hotpoint dryers without Jockey wheels, the gen. replacement belts are a very slightly shorter size than the original. I have resorted to loosening the motor screws to gain a few millimetres extra slack when fitting these.

ParticipantRe: Indesit W/m repair (Parts are FREE!)
This is an integrated machine, right? I was called in to install a brand new one of these about a year ago. The original machine had come as part of a new fitted kitchen but had failed when only a week or so old and the Merloni engineer said it would take a few weeks to get parts. Customer demanded and got a new machine but Merloni refused to install it, which is where I come in. The second machine lasted a bit longer, just over 2 weeks. This time the customer demanded (from the fitted kitchen people) a different make of machine. To appease her they got her a Hotpoint. I was called in again to do the honours but this time some of the building-in ironmongery was missing. I decided to try and rob the bits from the indesit and sure enough, they fitted perfectly. It turned out the third machine was exactly the same as the Indesit but badged Hotpoint!

Thanks. Yes he came today. Apparently he has been setting up displays of bags etc for new customers so has not had time to get round everyone lately.

ParticipantRe: Zanussi bearing job, 2 do or not?
I just can’t get my head round some of the repair prices I read about on this site. Why would anyone spend £139 on getting a Zanussi repaired? The last time I looked, you could buy a brand new Tricity Bendix in Argos for £180. 😯

ParticipantRe: Bosch WFF2001 pump
I recently came unstuck when ordering a pattern pump for a Bosch. It was a bayonet fitting but a different design of bayonet to the original. I had to order the gen pump complete with filter housing for megga bucks. Ironically, the pattern pump would have fitted the replacement filter housing, as it was the same bayonet arrangement.

ParticipantRe: Manufacture date of Hotpoint WMA33N, s/n 78117343?
Why not get a quote from a local repairer? You will have to pay for parts but it should still be cheaper than using Hotpoint.

ParticipantRe: Indesit W161 UK Bearing change
They obviously expect these machines to vibrate a lot more than older ones that didn’t have every bolt doused in Loctite. Perhaps we shoul all be buying Loctite shares?
