ParticipantRe: Bosch Vacuum
Thanks Swerv. I see this part is shown as in stock at Connect. I already ordered the Bosch one but they are not too expensive so I can order the Vax one as well. 🙂

ParticipantRe: Bosch Vacuum
It looks like Vax are trying to outdo Dyson in their quest for the most difficult appliance to dismantle and re-assemble. 👿 It was the microswitch, one of its spade tags had snapped off. I will have to order a new one (Part No. 417915 ?) but none of my supliers seem to keep it as a stock item, which usually means I have to wait at least a month. 😥

Yes Merv, there is no continuity between the black wire from the cutout device and the black wire to the PCB whether the microswitch is in or out. It could well be an internal break in the wire from the microswitch to the PCB.
Thanks Mark, I will try the polish and see if it helps.Phil

Pecker setup? It won’t be as reliable as her old machine then 😉

ParticipantRe: MSN Messenger
🙂 I found a way to do a manual download, enabling the download manager to be used. This time it only took about 40minutes so perhaps the MSN site was just very busy the first time I tried.

ParticipantRe: MSN Messenger
It looks like I’ve lost MSN Messenger. 🙁 Today it would not sign me in and insisted that I download the latest version of the software. I only have a dial-up connection as Broadband is not available in my area. The download must take more than 2 hours as it was not complete when I got kicked off. I have a download manager programme so I can try that but it does not always work with stuff like MSN.

ParticipantRe: Unbalanced load detection?
I hope you’re wrong Dave, I ordered a new timer/module this morning 🙄

ParticipantRe: Unbalanced load detection?
Thanks. This model does not have any leds so I don’t think it has error codes.

ParticipantRe: Recirculating water tank
I would have thought you should not need a booster pump if the header tank is mounted high enough. After all, the head of water in domestic hot water systems is provided in this way.

Rain water butt under the gutter downpipe? If it has a good lid you should not get algae and you could use a caravan type water container to top it up if it gets low. If doing a full wash and rinse programme you could send the wash water to the drain but re-use the rinse water.

ParticipantRe: Cheapest Genuine HPT carbons?
All the machines I’ve seen made in the last 15 years or so, if the customer says the appliance has not been repaired before or has never had the brushes renewed, the ones fitted are invariably laminated. I take the attitude that if Hotpoint sell the black ones they must be be a pukka item. I’ve had a few of the white ones split down the middle so I’m less keen on them.

Yes, I use it a lot, though only for social use. I sometimes chat for hours to a mate in NZ. If we did the same by phone it would cost a fortune. Used with a digital camera it is very handy for explaining things by photo. I’m helping a young lady rebuild her classic motorbike and she often sends me photos of different bits, asking “what does this bit do?” or “where does this fit on?”.

I only fit the laminated ones on 1200 spin machines although I know Hotpoint used them on everything. Do some of you also use laminated on the 800 & 1000 spin models?

ParticipantRe: Carriage charges for spares delivery
No, I don’t do many now Andy but I still repair a few for the local auction house who buy pallet loads of catalogue return stuff.
