I would recommend the WTA stay away from running it themselves or else it’s under a completely different name and separate concern. I would have thought that the WTA needs to remain as a supporting representative body of the trade and it’s members and is above any agency/company that organises repairs for customers.
….but then maybe I’m too old fashioned, old school and a bit long in the tooth now!!!

If it helps anyone, and following on from today’s announcement from the government, I asked one of our local GP’s who happens also to be a customer what I should do given the nature of my job is to go into so many different homes and businesses with different age groups and what guidance they had been given as health workers.

They replied that it’s a really tough one – as a GP surgery they are seeing urgent cases only and dealing with all that they can via phone and that they are certainly taking this virus very seriously. You won’t get a test unless you end up really ill in hospital (they aren’t even testing feverish GPs/nurses)

They went on to say that they think I should do exactly like they are doing at the moment and ask every person who I am going to go and see whether or not they feel feverish or have a persistent cough and if they do then I definitely shouldn’t go into their house. I should then hand wash properly after going into anyones house no matter how well they are.

Sensible advice I think. I keep soap in the van anyway but a small bowl and a 5 litre bottle of water has now gone in! I’ll probably ask if they are self isolating at the initial phone call too.

    Hi Phil,
I’ve PM you my contact details. There’s much to discuss if you’re interested. It’s easier to speak and answer questions rather than writing essays! Much commercial equipment is proper problem solving, diagnostics and repairable like domestic machines use to be but with the added advantage that you can get to individual components. Great fun, very interesting, varied and rewarding.

    Poppins Appliance Repairs
Only realised the account was closed when I tried accessing it now and called them to find out why it wasn’t working and was told I needed to spend at least £100 a week. Haven’t seen a letter or email to say anything about it and have just seen it on the trade forum as a thread.

Small accounts are a complete PITA to operate.

You have the ones that are as good as gold, pay on time and never cause an issue.

Then you have a good chunk that don’t pay on time, you have to send letters, get all nasty and so on just to get paid.

As was mine, a payment with order basis, but I take your point Ken.

Given how inexpensive (relatively) it is for a business to run a customers online account compared to the old fashioned paper trail it once was, it beggars belief that any business would adopt the practice of cutting out the small or occasional spenders.

Can you imagine Tesco, Asda, Marks and Spencers, Sainsburys, Morrisons, B&Q, Esso, T K Maxx etc etc stopping you at their door and saying to you that you are no longer allowed to come into their store as they have realised you have not spent enough with them (in their opinion) in the last 6 months?! 😯

    Re: Europarts Maddocks

    Thanks for that info eastlmark.

That was my exact suspicions. I was using them less and less as their prices were getting higher and higher even with the WTA discount I had last year until that stopped, and parts were then not always in stock and taking a long time to arrive. The higher prices are probably to help pay for the relocation.

It seems a funny way to go about it though. Why don’t they have the courage to say it to you when you telephone rather than fobbing you off with lies?
I did mention that if their software was capable they would have realised I logged into their site everyday. I am also of the opinion that if I can’t see the product then I am not going to chance buying it so a telephone order is highly unlikely.

I’ll do the form for it in the next few days if someone reminds me to do it, sorry I’ve been away the past week or so.

    Thanks Ken
I thought I registered somewhere previously for each meeting…..it was for the food and H & S!!

I’ve kept their almond machines going for ages. It will be nice to be able to offer them a replacement when the time arises.

As long as you don’t tell the it is an Indesit pile of poo underneath the paint job, you will be unlikely to keep them going for ages. :rolls:

    That’s the problem! :rolls:

That’s a few in this area I cover now.
Did have a spate of people contacting me about it and got them to contact Bosch when we discovered their machine was one that was affected. Might be a few more now.
