    Re: The Great British Media

AS we all know customers tell porkies (eg ‘I’ve only used this washer three times since you fixed it a year ago’ – how many times have we heard that one). Also where are they going to get an expert opinion, first of all they would have to pay for that and most people going down this route dont want to pay anything, secondly the ‘expert’ would have to be prepared to spend a lot of time in the litigation process ie lawyers, courts etc. Methinks a bit of a non-starter.

Re: Hotpoint dryer belt fitting tool

Use a top spring from a hotpoint washing machine to pull the belt on to the pulley whilst turning the rear fan. Harder with a new belt – stretch it first with a bit of heat. Removing the rear fan and trying to get those rear motor bolts lined up is a pain.

Yes Martin thats where I got the info from but it sows seeds of doubt in my mind. For a start how can you tell the difference between a programmed and an unprogrammed board.Fit an unprogrammed board and the machine will still be dead.Fit a programmed board and the machine could still be dead and requires the fascia board as well (Ive just had this problem with a Hoover W/d).I just wondered if anybody had fitted the 0064751 board and if it was ok.

Ah under the sink an extension of a womans’ dressing table – every cleaning product advertised on the telly. If you live with a woman you’ll see all those lotions, potions and pills on the dressing table or in the bathroom, being a bloke you wont have a clue what they are for. Go to a bachelors pad and all he has under the sink is washing up liquid for his two dishes and mugs and bleach for when things get bad, oh and washing powder for ‘the wash’.

Bloody Hell what about airport charges. Ive just paid £8.80 at Manchester just because I went into the second hour to pick my wife up. Me and the cat had just had a great week – no soap operas on the telly, feet up on the sofa, lots of loud music curtesy of youtube, pint in the pub every night after work, takeaway curries.£8.80 the bloody cheek of it.

Always asked the customer to be the ‘third’ hand.Doing one for an ex-England footballer I asked his very attractive Swedish girlfriend to be the ‘third’ hand. She had a see through blouse on,no bra.I havent quite got over it yet and that was thirty years ago. Every time I get a Zanussi door seal to do it brings back pleasant memories.

Try the A65 between Skipton and Kirkby Lonsdale when all the pikeys are going to the Appleby Horse Fair. Horse drawn caravans on a great road for driving but not for passing.

Re: HOTPOINT tumble dryers (the belt breaking bearing munche

Good money spinners these machines for us guys just doing cash repairs. However no one has mentioned one of the main differences between the White Knight and the Hotpoint is the size of the door opening, the Hotpoint is much larger and with the early type air seal (crap) there seems to be more friction – the top of the drum always rests on it. The newer foam air seal seems to be an improvement ( how often do we see this these days) but only time will tell. The glass door on the condenser drier also seems to be an improvement on the old square door.

Two of the buggers today.Went to a Hpt Condenser Monday needing a new back bearing and shaft kit . I’d just used the last one on the previous job so I said I can come back tomorrow with a new kit. They said better on Wednesday as we’re in all day. Arrived Wed 3pm – no answer – tried home phone no. (The one I’d been given) – no answer. Phoned me up at 5.30- ‘Why havent you called’.’Called at 3′ was my reply.’Wife must have been in the garden at the back. Can you come back tomorrow but were not in till 7pm.’Grrr machine is half stripped down to dry out the element and I’ve cleaned the condenser, pump, filter and all the channels at the back so I’ve time already on it or else I’d give them the sharp end of my tongue. 2nd one a Hpt WF420 ‘The start button is stuck in but I’m not in till 4.30’. Took a Complete fascia board (loads off scrappers)- turned out to be switch had fallen off and I replaced the selector board – 5 minutes of a job. When it came to paying was informed he had no cash and didnt have a cheque book and his wife had the cards can I come back tomorrow.Bloody Hell! Also had to go to Rochdale today – life’s too short for a trip to Rochdale.

Its Hydrochloric acid and will remove limescale pretty sharpish but left too long will turn silver drums black as it reacts with metals. Dont use it with bleach as it produces the gas that turned soldiers lungs to mush in the first world war.We only use it on limed up door rubbers where it works a treat.

Asking for trouble – I’ll say. Memories of some of the idiots when I did refrigeration. The guy who chopped the icebox out of his fridge because he didnt need it now he had bought a stand alone freezer. The foreign gentleman who rang me to say the light stayed on when he shut the fridge door. When I asked how he knew, he said he emptied it and then sat his little boy inside who then confirmed it. Then there are the people who get too much information from temperature displays and start altering the settings – I remember having to threaten one customer with a large bill if he didnt leave it alone after three call backs. I think this guy who’s advertising is going to get all the cheapskates and idiots but it serves him right for trying to rubbish others in the trade.

    Re: Going that extra mile

The reservations I have about this we gave him too much information. He should have been told it was a board fault only and then told where to get one from ie EMW or Hotpoint. If he had problems with Royal Mail that was his problem to sort out.Reading the posts I had the nagging feeling it was a troll, if he really is a heating engineer he will have had plenty of board faults(the cost of which can be eye watering).Every time a way was given to him he had an objection, trying to put the onus onto UKW. If he is for real I bet We haven’t heard the last of him.
