Re: Whats the most annoying thing customers do?

To continue my rant today (two in the annoying tenants)

Regular customer and a friends to be honest.

My dishwasher isn’t pumping out, do you think it’s time to get a new one to solve the problems we’re having?

This is the third call in 5 weeks. The last two were, a bit of broken glass and a ice cream stick respectively.
Tired of telling them, it’s not the DWs fault. I know your kids load the DW you need to get a grip.. had enough, it’s only 1030 on Monday morning and got a cr!p week with two family funerals back to back in opposite ends of the country to boot!!

Time for a cup of tea… and breath…

    Same company different TT.
Job sheet. Oven not working urgent. My default answer is the agents job to ensure that the clock is set etc etc, I fire it back to the agents. All sorted clock not set.

Same address two days later. New job sheet. Told to just go out. Oven uncontrollable heat and burning everyting and all the hob rings don’t work oh and neither does the grill. NOT A CHANCE

I visit. Grill ok, just let it warm up. I can’t see a flame, you won’t it’s electric.

Oven is fine. ME: So you’ve adjusted your cooking or baking to take into account that it’s a fan oven. TT: What’s a fan oven ? I explain – “Oh yeah did that.” Weren’t you the lady that didn’t know you had to set the clock? Yes. Well I didn’t have to on my last oven and that was oven and that was one of those fan oven thingies… I think?

HOB. Halogen hob. These rings keep going out when I turn them down… God give me strength. It’s gone 5 on Friday and I’ve still got a big job to do!! Ahh To be fair to her – two had failed they were either on or off so two new regs required.

She still found the concept of a halogen hob difficult to comprehend. I had to show her with the spuds she’d left from two days previous. She still wasn’t convinced and then tried to convince me she needed a new gas cooker. Can you please tell them I need a new gas cooker. No – there’s no gas in the village (wry smile)

Stinking festering rented house. Cat sh*t in the cat litter baskets and effing flies. Half a dozen of those horrible sticky fly traps hanging from the ceiling.. baulking at the though that I’ve got to go back. I’m very surprised this agent didn’t tell them to sort it out. They’re top class and have removed tenants for similar misdameanors before.

    TT “Cup of tea?”
    ME No thanks 🙁

No worries Kwat. I just saw them and thought I’d add it to this thread. It’s a shame they didn’t want trade sales, their loss.

    thanks

I found this whilst I was looking for some else but I thought I’d post it here, it might be useful for some one.

It looks very good with lots of brands and universal if not a bit pricey. Perhaps UKWG shop could look at stocking these?

Thanks to all, Everything seems fine. Switch looks fine. The bottom element looks deformed but that’s not unusual. No insulation problems. I’m going to change the base element.

Franz. I’m going to get the cooker fault isolated then probably get a sparky to check the CU…thanks for you tip.

    Re: HJA3200 Unusal fault?

Yes, basically it trips the wrong RCD. I’ll check the CU for loose terminals as suggested. Thanks

Have to say they looked really good, wouldn’t have know the difference unless pointed out to me

That’s good to know. I think the LL and agency are weighing it up. I did say I’d give it a go for them but offered no guarantee in any way. Definately worth a punt. Thanks

    Re: FRIDGE DRAIN HOLE

Try something like a cable tie or pipe cleaner. Things do get stuck..peas, bit of plastic wrapping etc etc.

At the back, you could also look at where it exits above the tray which is on top of the compressor (black motor). There might be a rubber vent. The vent might come off This might help to clear it.

Please don’t put anything like drain cleaner down there..not a good idea.

Re: What’s the worst injury you’ve had repairing appliances

Madmac wrote:That drum pulley injury looks even worse than mine, yuk. I remember a few years ago a guy called me out to his Hotpoint WM52 with no drum movement. I noticed his right hand was heavily bandaged and he sheepishly admitted that a few days previously, having gleaned some info from google :rolls: he took the lid off the machine, put it on spin and twirled the drum pulley with his right hand while tapping the motor with a pair of pliers . Nice.
The brushes made enough contact and his hand was pulled into the gap between the pulley and drum. Required stitches to at least 3 fingers if I remember rightly and was probably going to have permanent nerve damage in them.

I had to take a full week off after my injury so definitely wish I had passed on that particular job! Unfortunately the customer is still expecting me back to finish the work as he wants to make sure I get paid for my trouble ! At least he had the decency to phone to see how I was I guess 🙂

The latest incident had me thinking back to the first ‘flesh peeling’ hand injury I can recall when I was 12 or 13. Parents away for the day, I found a couple of rounds for dad’s ancient Lee-Enfield rifle ( he had a licence ! ) The gun was locked up thank goodness but I still thought it a fine idea to mount this sizable .303 cartridge in a vice in the garage figuring once activated, it would shoot through the open doors and hit a target I had positioned in the field behind our house ( it was a very rural setting thank god !)

So after clamping a round in the vice and gathering up a nail and a small hammer I proceeded to tap the primer gently, and with confidence building, managed to set the thing off on the third or forth strike.
It did not end well :eeek:

My ears rung for about 3 days and I was seriously lucky the deep jaws of the big old vice I used must have directed most of the blast towards the floor and roof. A chunk of brass came back towards my hands though and peeled a strip from my left index finger.
I remember dropping to the floor and going into a bit of shock, not able to move for half an hour watching blood drip through the hand I had clamped around my finger.

Firearms have big thick barrels for a good reason was the lesson learned that day 😆

Didn’t share that one with my parents untill I was in my mid 20’s !

    Eddie.

That 303 cartridge story would make a brilliant confession to put on the Simo Mayo show. A cracker…
