ParticipantRe: London Fire
Expect to see/read/hear lots of this:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/food-and-dri … re-hazard/
Which reminds me. Two blocks of flats I look after. A New agency took over in February and in March I reminded them they had at least 1/2 doz Hotpoint dryers that needed modifying and were not to be used. I sent them all the details. Read receipt but no reply. I like to sleep at night, I think I’ll remind them again !!

ParticipantRe: London Fire
A couple of things spring to mind:
1. In flats like these there should be a system of control on major electrical appliances. It’s easier because these aren’t private flats they’re LA flats. So many recalled appliances still being used. A serious hazard but especially in high rised flats.
2. Cladding on the outside of tall buildings. In the passed couple of years, a few serious fires in the Persian Gulf/Gulf of Oman sates have had serious fires caused or aggravated by plastic cladding. External esthetic cladding is a modern innovation. I doubt it’s controlled by current fire regs. Hopefully, some one can clarify.
My thoughts to all concerned

ParticipantRe: siemens KG39NH90 compressor relay
Full model number required.
Search here http://www.siemens-home.bsh-group.com/u … pare-parts
You’ll need the last bit of your model (Enr).Possibly part no 00618375 but please check.
Make sure it’s the relay/starter that’s smelling. Different compressors, some have run caps. Good luck

ParticipantRe: Cooker Isolation Switch over the hob
Thanks to all for your posts, much appreciated.
I also posed this on another forum to get feedback from Gas Safe engineers.
The bottom line,
Electrical rules: Recommended 300 mm horizontally away from hobs, sinks etc, the emphasis being on the recommended. It clearly breaches that both horizontally and vertically.
Gas regs are about safe distances for combustible materials. It’s clearly not a combustible material but is susceptible to heat from the hob. Lots of different opinons but basically it’s not illegal but a stupid placement of the socket.
I’m sure the LL will ignore any advice given. I’m sure the cost of removing the tiles, moving the socket and making good is probably to much warrant it. I’ll do my usual.
I’ll inform the LL via the agents and sleep well at night knowing I’ve tried to keep to do my best despite some blooming idiot fitting it in that position.
Time to move on.

I have the earlier versions, a WAS series, pretty much the same.
On ours, when you open the door the original program is set and displayed.

ParticipantRe: Vax Air Pet U87-MA-Pe spares
Just to update this thread incase anyone else does a search in the future.
I couldn’t find the spares anywhere and Vax were non too helpful when I rang them.
I gave the vacuum cleaner back to the lady, she phoned Vax to get it repaired under the Warranty or Guarantee – No parts at all. Non in stock, non due in. Automatic replacement to the vacuum cleaner.

Thanks Don,
It’s gone back to the lady and she’s already contacted Vax. Hopefully she’ll get it sorted.

ParticipantRe: Blomberg GVN9483E DW – no heat – heater etc good
It took ages but I did sort this one. I eventually got it to work for a few minutes so it pointed me in the right direction.
The fault was a break in one off the ntc wires. It looked ok, the plastic insulator was all ok but it was broken inside. Which probably explains why continuity on the wire was ok when I tested it. Thanks Dave for the help

ParticipantRe: Whats the most annoying thing tenants do?
A tenant but could easily be a house owner.
I went to repair a cooker. Replace tangential fan and cut in stat. It had been booked for 10 days when the lady was going to be off. I turned up at the designated time… she’s just finished cooking breakfast. Why ???
