I would also give advice re filters or oven clocks, this has served me in good stead over the years with customers retuning to me with more work and recommending me to others.

I know you will have checked this Martin, but on a few occasions I have had continuity OK readings from the heater TOC but on removing them have found one to be concave, replace kit and everything fine.

    Re: Yell.com

I advertise weekly in three local market town papers, a local business directory and yell.

After most repairs I ask the new customer where they got my number giving me an idea of response from each ad.

Another great source is my local hairdresser, I give him £50 cash per year in return for three A4 posters made up from my own desk top publishing software, these are put below the mirror and in front of the cutting chair, hey presto a captivated audience for at least an hour.

Advertising can be a suck it and see exercise so don’t spend £££££££££££££.

Thanks Martin for the prompt reply, I’m old enough to know that the serial number would have played a part.

Three years from retirement can’t come soon enough.

Re: Cancellation of Contracts, new regulations!

This seems bonkers to me, if the customer has invited you to the property then this is not a cold call or door stepping.

What a load of c–p, also in the last sentence from the Department of Business Blah Blah Blah they use the word assume.

We should never assume anything particuarly in this business, I was trained as a youngster that to assume was to make an ASS out of U and ME.

Also while on the subject never use the sentence ” to be honest with you” or other like sentences it means that at other times you are not honest with them.

Time and time again I hear politicians using this when interviewed and just wonder if they realise what they are admitting to.
