With regard to recycling of appliances have just to local dealers store and had the top off Bosch’s latest top of the range 😯 washer dryer, looks like you treat it like a baked bean tin ie: jump on it and stick it in your recycle bin 😉 ,thats the way to go. 😈

Judging by the mod sensor is taken out of circuit
Quite right, this range of fridges with foamed in sensors has two sensors, one on the foamed in evaporator and one lower down in back wall to control air temperature.
The evaporator sensor is the one which fails as it is used to tell the electronics when the evap. is defrosted.
The sensor is cut out of the circuit and the connections joined together at the module connector. the electronics then revert to emergency mode and control the defrosting on a time control rather than temperature.
Have done the ‘improvement’ many times and has worked every time.
Some module edge connectors have four connections, on this one you cut off the sensor leads to terminals 1 and 3 leaving 2to3 inches of cable on the block, join these leads together and insulate.
On the three terminal version you locate the sensor connected to terminals 1 and 2 and cut as above, TAKE CARE to make sure second sensor wire is left also connected to terminal 1
The terminal numbers are moulded into the plastic body of the edge connector

ParticipantRe: faulty bosch fridge freezer
Rob,
As posted in another forum the most likely reason for your fault is failure of a foamed in sensor, until recently this has meant scrapping the appliance however Bosch have come up with a repair option that is quick to complete which involves changes to the wiring of the electronic control board, this is not a diy repair I suggest you post up your postcode or look in the directories over to the left for a local engineer.Sparkey

Frankly, the time is better spent in the field learning the job instead of outdated information in a classroom.
Having had experience of so called ‘qualified’ engineers leaving training establishment in Leicester found they had could quote chapter & verse about the theory but had difficulty in opening the tool box, I agree with both of you that ‘hands on’ experiance in the field is the way to go.

Guest,
Most likely cause is failure of printed circuit board at heater relay connection, con sometimes be resoldered if not new board required.
if you are unsure best to contact experienced engineer either post your post code or use ‘directory’ to the left of forum column. As we always say PULL OUT THE PLUG

ParticipantRe: Siemens fridge/freezer help please.
mantasport,
Your problem is almost certain to be failure of one of the foamed in sensors for the temperature control. Until recently this fault resulted in scrapping of the appliance however Siemens have come up with a small change to the electronic control wiring that is quite quick to complete, not a diy repair so post your postcode or look in the directories (left of this panel) for engineer in you area who will be please to help you.

Best bet is to leave it with Trading Standards I should think
Don’t hold your breath, I tried on Thurs / Friday to contact Devon Trading Standards Office, 8 or 9 phone calls later each one giving me a number to ring I eventually ended up with the number advertised on their web site ready to start all over again. And they say our trade has problems. 😯

According to CORGI’s technical bulletin Number 64 Dated 10 May 1996 (yes it’s still in force) I contacted CORGI to comfirm what i was reading was correct
according to my local Corgi representative it is unlawful for ANY repairs to be carried out on any gas or combination appliance unless you are Corgi registered.
The reason given is that any visiting engineer must be conversant with correct ventilation / instalation requirements to be able to assess any possible irregularities even when carrying out the most trivial repairs.
We have been warned that if we carry out any electrical repairs to a dual fuel product we face immediate prosecution

anyone got any experience of using “Scalewatcher” products
A few years ago when these products were first on the market I had a contract to install these on the basis that if there was no improvement in six months then the manufacturer would pay to remove them and refund the customers money.
I must have installed about 40 units but never had to remove any at all ❗ no promise that they work in all areas but my area is almost as hard as Londen so would suggest they are worth a try, Dont expect instant results though.sparkey
