Never tell the customer what has gone wrong before the repair, give them a price for repairing they’re machine. Once you’ve completed the job & the machine’s been tested is the time to tell them & then put it on the Job card / Receipt. Don’t understand why you’d tell them the wrong part though.

ParticipantRe: Whirlpool aw0/d 049 – no power
Hi: You shouldn’t actually be doing any Live testing on the machine. But as you’ve already done so: When you say at the spade connectors, do you mean the connectors on the mains filter at the back of the machine ? if so did you have power both sides of it ?

Strange: Would have expected them to do a replacement before wasting that sort of money.

Hi: When you replaced the pressure switch (Level controller) did you make sure that the small pipe was clear ?.

When you replaced the PCB, did you program it ? or swap the eprom from the old PCB ? From what I remember these PCB’s don’t come with eprom from most suppliers & those that do are not pre-programmed.

ParticipantRe: Single oven with plug or replacement with wired?
Due to Technical problems with Beko appliances, they wouldn’t be my 1st choice or for that matter my second.

Hi: No need to carry out any live testing, you should be able to localise the fault easily enough using resistance tests. Doubt that there’s a fuse inside to blow, the 1st thing I’d check would be the door safety switch. Have you got a model number for the machine ?

ParticipantRe: Single oven with plug or replacement with wired?
Hi: If you take a look online you can normally find some good deals on appliances, Your right a 16 amp rated oven can’t be connected to a plug top for use. For a 16 amp oven it needs to be connected via a 20 amp double pole switch.

Hi: Your going to need a Multimeter & be confident in it’s use for fault finding, if you don’t have 1 or are not confident in it’s use then it may be an idea to call a local engineer to look at it for you. If you click on Search at the top of the page you should be able to find a good local engineer.

Do you have a Multimeter & know how to use it for testing ? The thermostat going wouldn’t cause your machine to be Completely dead.

ParticipantRe: Tripping electrics
The hotter the element gets the more it will “Flex” if the wire inside the element moves enough to touch the Earthed outer sheath then your RCD will trip out. The only way to find the Fault is either use a Megger on the element to check Insulation when it’s hot or by replacement.

ParticipantRe: HOTPOINT OPENSPACE MULTIFUNCTION OVEN OS897DIX
Hi: I couldn’t actually find any fault codes listed for this, even on the Hotpoint site (Nothing unusual there though). It sounds from your description that you may have a faulty control board, but without testing it it’s impossible to say for sure. Your safest option would probably be to call a good local appliance engineer to check it out for you, if you take a look at the link above your post you’ll probably find an approved engineer local to you.
