    Re: Free Estimate.

Nowadays they want everything for nothing, had 1 last week that wanted me to to waive my charge because the machine was BER & couldn’t accept that it still cost the same to come out. :rolls:
As for free estimates it’s a minefield, people expect you to come out to the machine & diagnose all for nothing sorry I don’t do that anymore I have a minimum call out charge & if they don’t accept that then they can go elsewhere, it’s hard enough for us to make money in this game as it is.
If they complain about having to pay for an estimate I normally ask if they work for free, only ever had 1 customer put the phone down on me & normally get the work.
You know yourself how much money it costs us every time we go out to a call, so no mate at the end of the day you can’t afford to go out & do free estimates. My definition of a free estimate is the same as yours, done over the phone calling on past experience to make a guess as to what’s wrong.

Hi David: I spent a lot of time looking for this sort of info on the web, the only places I could find were American so it’s not really that good to us.
If you give Graham Dixon a bell, he might know of something all his details are on the forum.

Hi: E10 is the user error code for cycle paused, due to any of the following:
    1) Poor water pressure
    2) Faulty inlet valve
    3) Fault in pressure system or switch
    4) Bad interconnection wiring
    5) PCB faulty
    Normally in that order, HTH[/img]

Hi Mike: How does it sense temperature? surely there has to be either a stat or if Electronic control an thermistor. 😕

Have you checked the wiring from the NTC to the PCB? If the wiring is open you get this also check the drive Triacs.

    Re: whirlpool flashing eleven times

It appears to be indicating that the water flowmeter is faulty & the expected signal is not reaching the control panel. Testing & replacing this is normally a job for an engineer.

If you decide to check yourself, please remember: Power OFF & Plug OUT.

Probably a stupid question but did you check that the rinse hold switch isn’t faulty ❓

    Re: Hotpoint CTD40

Hi: Rear NTC should read approximately 500 Kilohms at room temperature (20 deg c) also check the wiring between thermistor & board as this has a habit of going o/c.

Had this a couple of times in the last few weeks, both times it was caused by the heater being leaky to earth.

    Re: Microwave Question

Hi: A lot of the transformers have a built in non replaceable fuse in the filament winding to the Magnetron, with the TX disconnected you should get the following resistance readings:
    Primary: 2 – 5 ohms
    Filament: Less than 1 ohm
    H.V: 20 – 120 ohms
From any connection to TX casing using a Digital meter with a min 40 meg resistance range should be o/c.

Re: Test Gear & Safety testing

O.K people: My last post on this subject, I have today been in contact with the Trading standards people regarding this & been told that it comes under the Electrical equipment safety regulations 1994 & is enforceable under LAW, whether that is accurate or not I can’t say what I can say is from several enquiries I get the same answer. Whether anyone else decides to take notice is not my problem I for 1 do not intend to stop safety testing on completion of repairs on the off chance that it may not be a legal requirement.
1 last point: I don’t quite understand why any Competent & Conscientious
engineer would not carry out Electrical safety testing on completion of a repair be it a Legal requirement or not. 😕
As for commercial equipment repairs I don’t believe these were mentioned, a Commercial repair engineer is an engineer who carries out repairs for Profit or Reward.

Re: Test Gear & Safety testing

From what I have been able to find out the original standard that covered this was BS3456: Safety of household & similar appliances: If an appliance has been repaired it is an essential requirement that Earth Bond & Insulation tests are carried out to ensure continued Electrical safety.
I believe this has now been replaced by BS EN 60335.
Unfortunately this is split into many parts & quite expensive so I don’t intend to buy it just to prove the point.
