Threepenny bits, yes, quite a distinctive shape I seem to remember, but maybe just lying around in an old drawer, if not in the old Hoover Keymatic drain pump!

You may remember there were 12 old pence in a shilling, 20 shillings in a pound, so 240 old pence in the pound. There are 100 new pence in the pound, so one shilling is actually worth only 5 new pence. No, I’m not old enough to remember decimalisation, but old enough to remember 1 and 2 shilling coins still in circulation and used as 5p and 10p coins.

ParticipantRe: Fused Test Leads.
I’ve no idea, to be honest, but I probably only average about 15 minutes a day on electrical measurements anyway, so not a huge investment for the peace of mind dead working brings!

ParticipantRe: Fused Test Leads.
Interesting reading. A worthwhile investment if it saves a life. I was trained to diagnose without live testing, but occasionally do, perhaps once a month or so, where resistance measurements prove inconclusive.

ParticipantRe: Trade site info posted in public
I think Ken means the poster has not copied the document, merely provided a link to the document already published on Electrolux’s website.
A Google search for “electrolux-ti” will reveal dozens of documents which Electrolux has (perhaps unknowingly) made accessible to all.

ParticipantRe: Whats the most annoying thing customers do?
The first time dad with wife on maternity leave that reject every time slot I suggest, eg:
“she goes out with the baby between 10 and 11 so can you come after 11”, “she feeds the baby between 12 and 12:30 and he won’t eat if anyone else is there”, “the baby sleeps between 2 and 3, so you’ll have to come after then”, “she’ll be cooking his tea after 4:30, so you’ll need to be out before then.”

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint parts service.
It may be worth contacting Tracy Green in the Indesit trade parts team as she offers better trade terms for non account holders.

ParticipantRe: Homefix
If this is their website, it looks like a scam to me:
Broken links on website, no obvious way for customers to access their services, premises not listed on the Royal Mail address file, asking for money up front from traders, etc.

ParticipantRe: Candy/Hoover overheated and melted fleece clothing.
Elements on Hoover machines from that era in my experience have had an element with thermal fuse, highlighted by different coloured terminal insulators, which should be fail safe. Could the original element have been replaced in the past with an alternative part without this additional protection?

ParticipantRe: SoGA Truths, Myths & Lies
The six month rule Jackal refers to above is contained in an amendment to the Sale of Goods Act introduced by the Sale and Supply of Goods to Consumers Regulations 2002. These regulations provide a get out clause which would appear to cover his example of batteries.

ParticipantRe: OFT Advert In ERT
I think the problem is they have tried to summarise a complex set of rules in a simple flow chart. The more detailed guidance on their website is much more comprehensive and worth a read here:

I think it’s a manual summer time switch, not auto. Switch it on in summer and off in winter.

Can you say more on these brackets? Is this a recommended modification? Which machines does it apply to? Do you have any part numbers?

ParticipantRe: What is
According to the OFT:
“It is important to remember that a guarantee does not replace or limit a customer’s rights. Customers are entitled to raise a problem with you regarding a product for up to six years from the date of purchase (five years from the discovery of a problem in Scotland) regardless of the terms of any guarantee. Customers are entitled to rely on the remedies available to them under law (outlined in this guide) rather than their rights under a guarantee, if they wish.”
