No more need to check those trouser pockets!

Has anyone else spotted that with each new design platform, manufacturers think of new ways to hinder maintenance? What was a 20 minute job on a Bosch WAE can easily become a 40 minute job on one of these, or possibly 1 hour if you’re unlucky with the installation.

The few pence saved on easy access panels in manufacture must be more than cancelled by extra £££ in warranty repair costs?

The hinged front of pre-2000 Miele washing machines gets my vote for most repair-friendly design.

Contact Whirlpool parts here and ask for a trade cash account. You will gain access to the Whirlpool SMART system which gives free access to all the parts info by model and industrial code and likely a decent trade discount:

Thanks Dave, yes I noticed the manual warns to leave it for 12 hours before first use. The advice on tilting only to the right is a a little woolly, as although in a “Warning” box, it is stated as only a recommendation. I’ll ask him how soon after standing it back up he ran it again – more than likely straight away I guess.

I don’t know if it’s related to what you’re referring to, but I noticed the other day that the 0800 Repair white goods appliance service appears to have rebranded as Pacifica Group. The 0800repair.co.uk website is now defunct and the 0800repair.com website relates to heating and energy systems only.

It seems Pacifica have transferred the 0800 Repair brand to boiler manufacturer Viessmann who bought out Pacifica’s heating and energy services business earlier this year, although at least some of the directors are the same. I’m guessing the 0800 Repair brand didn’t achieve the recognition they hoped for in the white goods repair market, despite the garish logo and screwdriver topped vans it was launched with, so the potential loss of previous direct white goods repair customers is perhaps not a significant concern.

I have never come across a Beko washing machine with a failed inverter motor (except some early motors which had on-board electronics), but many times a failed inverter board, particularly on Beko.

I think I just phoned the spares line and asked. There don’t seem to be any minimum spend requirements like for other manufacturers. The discount I get is better than I got as a trade customer through the call centre. I use mine constantly as a definitive parts lookup but only order the occasional stuff for jobs not stocked by distributors or for which distributors over-charge. Delivery times are not fantastic but far quicker than placing a special order through a distributor.

That’s great – I have come across a few gaps on the consumer site in the past. It’s worth applying for a trade account to get access to the BSH QuickFinder and possibly a better discount

There is always a programmed version as well – if you search by E-Nr you should find the programmed alternative

Dispenser leaks often look like door leaks as water trickles down from the dispenser opening into the door recess then trickles down the middle of the front panel below the door.

I assume you ruled out the possibility that the leak was caused by something getting caught between the door glass and door seal – arguably a common cause of leaks with elderly clients and/or their carers?

Sounds good – I could only see a couple of lines of text at a time below the adverts for while a few days ago – now I can’t see any!

Yeah, the cartridges supplied with new printers are generally nearly empty. The high capacity genuine ones will typically last 5 times as long. It’s worth playing around with print quality settings to save ink. Plus print in black & white when you don’t need colour, and print 2 pages per sheet to save ink.

Vurgest & Sons was the registered company name. The administrator’s report to creditors on Companies House makes sobering reading – over-dependence on large contracts suddenly withdrawn. It doesn’t name names but refers to contracts for the supply of parts, etc. In 2009 they lost one contract worth 25{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of turnover and later another worth 40{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}. I’m pretty sure I only used them for Whirlpool parts. My last invoice for Whrlpool parts was March 2012 and they folded in January 2013.

Was that ASD Services Leeds, Whirlpool parts specialists from memory?
