i would only ever buy hoover any model will do, the cheapest works just as well as the dearest.
all come with a 5 year parts guarantee.
machines are reasonably priced, reliable, easy to get parts for, parts reasonably priced.i am sure others will recommend other weird and wonderfull makes i will stand by hoover manufactured in wales.
we have been hoover agents for over 50 years they dont pay me any money but i still recommend them.
new machines take a 6kg, 7kg and 8kg loads the 6kg would be fine go for a spin speed aboout 1200 to 1400rpm.

i had the same with a bosch element from washvac, tightened up the nut nice and tight gave the element a tug it came away in my hand.
when compared to the original there was a much smaller rubber flange on the new one which was supposed to be genuine.March 31, 2007 at 6:41 pm in reply to: Hoover 1200 Special Edition (Range 4) drum off-centre #209520suedehead1

sounds like the drum spider will be broken. the shaft is attached to the drum with a 3 or 4 legged spider i cant remember which, one of the legs will be broken i have seen a few like that.
the easy way to check is to try and push down on the front of the drum exactly in line with the drum paddle, the repeat process for every paddle, if the deflection is greater at one of the paddles then it means that one of the legs of the spider are broken.
best to get hoover if under 5 years old.
not really a cost effective or diy job if not.suedehead1

sounds more likely to be a blockage in the sump hose some of these old servis machines had a filter built into the sump hose which would catch coins etc.
a good way to check if it is draining properly is to put it onto a rinse with no clothes in it, then when it has filled up wth water press the cancel button and see how long it takes to drain the water away it should take about a minute. any great increase on this time woud indicate a blockage.suedehead1
ParticipantRe: Hpt Motor Conversion Problem.
you could get away with these kind of things in the good old days.
i remember going to a hoover twin tub which would spin with the lid open someone had bypassed the switch.
i would never bypass a door lock now but did in the past untill i went back with a new one.suedehead1
ParticipantRe: Hoover WDM120 overfill on rinse.
if i get one with a hole in it i just cut it and put in a blue butt connector to join up the two halves. i also keep some red pressure switch tube of old hoover logics its pretty indesructible.

ParticipantRe: Hpt Motor Conversion Problem.
i just bypass the toc they normally only go if the armature needs changed.
i am sure someone will say this is not the thing to do but i have never had any problem.
i used to keep the old tocs out of old motors they just pull out.suedehead1
ParticipantRe: Samsung B1445S Door Boot fitting
i never take the front off these to change the seal its easy enough to do with the front on there is plenty of access with lid off to put on clamp band

ParticipantRe: Hoover WDM120 overfill on rinse.
i had one exactly the same it overfilled only on rinse it had a pin hole in the pressure switch tube where it went up the side of the tub.

with these older hotpoints i always just change the armature qualtex still supply them ARM 20 unless there is anything else wrong with the motor.

ParticipantRe: washing machine in garage
thanks again for the replies if i went out to fix a machine which was emptying into the garden i would tell them if they didnt put it right i would have to inform environmental health so i will do exactly the same with my neighbour.
some people just dont think things through.suedehead1

ParticipantRe: Easy(?) Question About Leaking Hotpoint WD640
i dont know wether i am supposed to be specific but if you have the plug out, take off the panel at the bottom of the back of the machine you will then see a black corrugated hose coming from the bottom ot the drum going to the pump sitting at the right hand side as you look at it.
the hose is attached to the bottm of the tub with a large jubillee type clip loosen this clip and the hose will come off the tub inside the hose is a conical filter with a round plastic ball.
if there are any foreign objects they will be in there.
also stick a finger up into the tub tu ensue no socks etc in there.
make sure when refitting the hose that it is pushed fully back onto the tub before tightening up the jubilee clip
