    Re: Abestos in oven?

I am not the right person to answer that, I would imagine that it is probably ok from the front as long you don’t disturb it but that is impossible not to disturb it.

I am having a bit of dilemma on how to remove the oven for disposal, since it a enclosed unit which I think it’s fine to remove the unit and take it down to the scrap yard. They are used to scrapping cars that contains it. Maybe I should organise a contractor to remove this safely and pass the cost on the customer before I install the new oven? Who shall I call to have this job carried out?

I did some research on asbestos, it is quite scary that it can be found in everyday materials and I may have been exposed to it during my childhood. Yet they still mine the stuff and being used in other part of the world. Basically millions of us are exposed to it and all it takes one fibre to start it off.

There is another research showing that smokers are more likely to get asbestos in their lungs compared with non smoker.

Does this means I will have to wear mask every time I work on the oven?

a small cut n paste from this …http://www.hse.gov.uk/waste/waste-electrical.htm

Asbestos waste and components which contain asbestos – asbestos has been used in older appliances such as electric coffee pots, toasters and irons. Asbestos was also a component of some electric heaters and other items that benefited from the heat resistant properties of the material. Modern appliances are not permitted to contain asbestos; however, operators of treatment facilities need to be vigilant for items which might contain asbestos. Appliances that are over 20 years old might contain asbestos and therefore should be examined carefully and treated accordingly. Detailed risk assessment, training and safe systems of work will be required for handling products likely to contain asbestos. Work should be organised so that materials likely to contain asbestos are identified and work not initiated without adequate controls being taken in accordance with Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations 2006.

Went to the elementman, he’s local to me. Turns out that it’s unlikely that Connect’s alternative part will fit.

Thanks Don, you are not wrong on that statement on whether it will fit. It’s another matter and there are no supporting brackets for the replacement. I’m reluctant to try it out, I know that element need supporting as it will bend over time.

I fear I would be doing my customer injustice by fitting it without the support bracket.

WTA can do credit checks on the offending company and perhaps shed some light on this?

    Re: connect rep

I think each supplier have their preferred method that appeals to each of us. I use Connect 95{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the time as they are on my doorstep literally as for costs, I just simply pass it on to my customers and I have no issues with that. Quite a number of staff there knows me. As for sales rep, I do have one but I don’t know what it looks like.

A while back, I was at the trade counter asking if this certain rep-man available to see me as I have a query to make, only to find that I was actually talking to him without realising who he was. For so long I had assumed he was some poor down trodden warehouse worker. Oops!

Re: Whirlpool AWZ7913 – tumble dryer – fault code

    Thanks John,

I found that out myself as I think it was overheated due to restricted airflow at the rear as there were burnt markings. Stripped it down and hoovered up the fluff, replaced the felt seal.

Now appears to be in working order.

I quite enjoyed this tumble dryer compared with Hotpoint. A pleasure to work on.

Re: Whirlpool AWZ7913 – tumble dryer – fault code

I checked the heater unit inc stats – all ok
I checked the NTC probe that was on the front, don’t know the correct readings but it does work as the value went down when you warm it with your hand which suggests it is working.

I can’t find any more stats and wondering if the program board is goosed?

The front drum felt need replacing and there are few scraped plastics and this is consistence with worn front felt. I’d rather establish the fault first before attempting to replace the felt so I can give my customer the choice.

It’s unusual for circ motor to cut in at this stage, usually drain pump. Might be worth checking drain pump to see if it clear of debris?

Re: Beko DW601 – burnt out float switch

    Thanks Geoff,

I replaced the float switch unit as the original was completely destroyed. I am assuming that the whole unit have the diverter valve on it. The new switch was no better than the original as there were no protective sleeves between the points. I had to replace the plugs on the lead for insulated plug. Shouldn’t that be safety issue with Beko?

    Re: connect rip off merchants

Bryan do have a point but at the end of the day do I want the hassle to spend ages looking for cheaper parts and try sell to the customer a discounted parts when they don’t have the luxury to obtain cheaper parts themselves.

I simply took the view that I’m employed by the customer and they will pay whatever I charge them for and to quibble for £15 difference is not worth the trouble. Sometimes but very rarely I sell parts at cost price to make it affordable in order to secure repeat custom. I agree some parts can be excessive.

I recently fitted replacement carbon filters for cooker hood at the cost of £50 a pair, the guidelines says replace it every six months. Well I’ll be blowed!

    Hoover HW 6316 M – washer dryer

I turned to spin, it spun away no problems but wld not end the cycle, the timer rotates to program 3 and starts the wash.

The heater is closed circuit and it does work. If I disconnect the heater, the insulation reading shoots up to around 300mohm. I am pretty sure the heater is not cause of problem.

It seems to point that there is a fault with the timer.

    Re: Waste Carriers Licence

I am in the process on renewing the waste carrier licence, on their website it shows you what licence you require. Apparently it says that I should go for lower tier. Will keep you posted on how I got on as I have been the Upper Tier for the last three years.

My feelings that I may have to change the way I deal with the waste such as leaving certain items with the customers, depending on what is the waste or charge the customer for waste disposal. My biggest problem with the waste is those polystyrene foam packaging that you get with the whitegoods, currently these are disposed via my trade waste which I find it wasteful and takes up too many bin bags (two pounds a bag weighing virtually nothing). In Birmingham, I have to use those pre-paid sacks costing me 100 pounds for 50 bags for the year. Those pre-paid sacks have an expiry date on it as if I don’t use it up by the end of the year and I will have to buy some more and cannot use the previous year’s bag. It’s all colour coded which was why I am careful on not to waste it. On my google search, it seems that there are few commercial recycling places that are taking those foams for free(?). I shall give them a call and see what happens.

    Re: Waste Carriers Licence

Imo it’s safer to go for the higher tier but you have to pay for it, I get a discount of £100 instead of £154 for renewal. The lower tier is free but riddled with confusion.
