This is so common, best to have spare locks and wiring harness. I have come across few of them, it seems to affects Indesit models rather than Hotpoint.

Re: Detergent use in hard water area

This particular detergent has nowt to do with heater failure. I’m just pointing out that usually with heater failure in hard water area and I remove the heater that are often heavily limescaled. Especially with newer machines which was why I was surprised to see such huge difference on limescaled heater in hard water that was down to detergent use.

The customer would like to know how to prevent it rather than me thrusting the limescale remover pack to them. They can’t fathom the need to carry out service wash monthly. Who keeps track of service wash by marking it on the calendar?

I stumbled across a solution that liquid gel seems to do away with service wash and the machine seems to be in perfect nick. I don’t know if this was due it was so well looked after or the detergent have a role in it.

As I live in soft water area and I’m not the beat person to judge it. Perhaps someone ought to try it out in hard water area and see if there are any differences?

I had that problem few weeks back to the run up to Christmas. Connect was the only one who supplies this and has no choice but to buy it. I’m beginning to wonder whether Hoover is trying to kill off Baumatic by making the spares expensive?

It sounds like a programming fault on the oven.

    Re: SIMPLE PCB REPAIR TIPS

I’ve decided to take the plunge to repair the Indy board, a wixl model with all lights flashing. Instead of paying £30-40 to send it out to be repaired, naturally I would rather save money, do the repair myself and pocket the profit.

I found a blown capacitor and purchased some new ones from RS for £1 for a pack of 5 (680f 10v). Thinking that I am on the roll until I used my soldering iron that I had for a while (it’s quite new about 2 years old and only used about 4 times), turns out that it was not hot enough. Do I need to purchase the 50w soldering iron to do the job? If so, will I need to buy flux that can handle higher temperature?

The one I have may be unsuitable perhaps the one I have could be classed as a hobby iron.

Some help would be appreciated… BTW Happy New Year to you all.

    Matt

Any info would be good as the customer is throwing a wobbler and threatening to buy a new dishwasher which I am reluctance to go down the route for number of reasons as one of them is time consuming and Christmas.

Thanks Steve, found the pressure switch via complete drum strip down. Didn’t mind doing that.

Cleaned it out and tested the switch using multimeter and blow throw the small pipe to get the clicking noise. Then refitted it, no improvement.

I ordered new pressure switch and it’s special order and back order with Qualtex and Connect. Looks like it will be after Christmas for it to arrive! The customer with two teenage boys was not happy. What can I do?

I am a qualified chef and I remain unconvinced that ‘cooking’ fish in the dishwasher is the way forward. Vacuum bag cooking in bain marie is an old concept, just someone found a less messy way to do it.

I used get berated by the head chef for ‘cooking’ porridge in the bain marie. I used to argue why go into the trouble using pans to make porridge as you can’t hurry the cooking. Instead use the bain marie and the end result is a creamier soft porridge. It went down very well with the diners. I do the same with scrambled eggs, I do it in the steamer and finish it off on the bain marie. Traditionalist says bain marie is for keeping food warm, I see it as a useful tool for cooking certain food.

I don’t know how many of us find it uncomfortable at the thought of fish being ‘cooked’ for 2 hours in the dishwasher or regularly opening the door to interrupt the cycle.

    Re: Tesco

Washing toys in dishwasher is what we do at home. I hadn’t considered wellies but with Bosch dishwasher comes with baking tray nozzle that you remove the top rack and screw in the nozzle, that would work on scrubbing those wellies.

My wife would probably do it if we have those baking trays nozzle.

As for grits and sand in pump, I think it’s no worse than sand in washing machines.
