    Re: EEE safe email.

Had email from them offering £80 call out including spares for repair jobs. Not paid much attention as I think it hasn’t established itself well despite making a show at WTA conference last year. Couldn’t put a finger on it, summat not right somewhere.

I had summation similar, starter motor packed up during my most busiest week. Heavy wind and sleet. Thank goodness I was at the customer’s house keeping warm but you get the feeling of out staying your welcome. The tow truck ride was very unforgiving and cold, the taxi ride home from the garage was also unforgiving and dirty.

Who knew that a Vauxhall Vectra (taxi) can do 201k miles on the clock?

Forgot to mention that I attended two machines of the same model on that week, both same age, both even had the same faults.

EMW and QER do not repair them. You get new replacement module from Connect but I needed to know what else to replace as board don’t blow up on its own.

Re: Bsh WFO2866GB/07 FD8409 – cuts out during spin

Has it been known for machine to switch itself off? This one lights up then during spin attempting to speed up, it turned itself off – lights out – dead but still works after you select the knob back to off and move to another program – it wakes up. The machine even went along with the changes during the cycle, such as if you select cotton wash 40deg (it fills, washes) then move the knob to drain or even to spin – it jumps to that actual program straightaway without pause. It behaved like the old 1980’s hotpoint timer machine which was why I was puzzled.

Originally I thought it was the board fault, but it kept nagging me that I must have missed something. Hopefully when I get to look again on Monday, it may become clear with my conscience eased or put right. The start button wouldn’t even allow me to pause or reset the machine which led me thinking board issues. Perhaps I got mixed up with the newer machines?

Sorry about the amount of questions, like I said it was very unusual for me to come across it, the worse thing was I wrote the machine off as I couldn’t find any other possible cause to the fault. In the end the owner bought a new machine – after all she felt that 9 years of service was good.

I now have the machine in my hands and I have another person who might be interested in the machine once I have fixed it up (if I can do it without replacing the motor or board otherwise it’s scrap) to replace his noisy indesit washer dryer (the bearings on its way out).

Even the machine switched itself off during the spin? Just that it’s not usual fault I’ve encountered.

I even gave the motor a clean and the brushes are fine as they are original with plenty of life left. This still happens. Will check it out on Monday.

I must try that. I too have been caught out by caustic soda or drain cleaner. As a precaution, I always wear rubber gloves and use wet vac. One occasion i had it accidentally splashed into my eye resulted me out of action for nearly a month. No lasting damage as my glasses took the full force but left me feeling weary of it, never trust the customer.

    Re: the best bearings…

I has the unfortunate job to replace the bearings on Hotpoint washer dryer, the repair is much cheaper than buying new washer dryer. The original bearings was rusted onto the inner shaft which meant it was not possible to replace other than buying new rear half tub.

This had increased the costs of repair by only am extra £40 and it still worked out much cheaper than buying new washer dryer.

I’m grateful for Qualtex who made rear half tub affordable to repair unlike Connect.

Anyone got the patent office number?

    Steve

I think it’s already patent, just that no-one haven’t taken the step to apply it to washing machines and dishwashers. Think of all the energy and water saving could be had.

Looks like we were beaten to it!

Just a glimpse on what they could do but only this happens in USA where there are a lot of gullible people there.

Me thinks it was sponsored by Dettol, obviously there’s no strong ground for getting people to buy their products. Dettol are good for cleaning the floor that was previously soiled by my dog.

We all know that low temperature washing causes endless problems, it will not be the end of it as it will get worse. What next? Ultra violet kit fitted to the washing machine to kill off the germs?

    Re: hotpoint bf1620 LED error

I have just had these problems, I went on Monday to attend this dishwasher with circulation pump fault.

Turned out that all are well, dodgy pressure switch, I removed the pressure switch and gave a blow then returned it. It worked. So now I am having to return to the job with same fault. I think I will put in new pressure switch then?

Failing that, what should I look for elsewhere then?

    Re: September 2013 Engineers meeting

It was my first September meeting, it was very informal and I managed to recognise few faces and took the plunge to get to know other like minded engineers.

They are all different from each other and shares the same common ground.

As for the “lecture”, it was good to know what dirty tricks that other big boys gets up to even though it does not applies to me as I do not have contract work, franchise work, heavily dependence on websites but still I like to keep my eyes and ears open on what they are up to.

I was surprised that big firms were poaching for staff, I thought people are likely to go for independent engineers but then I perhaps I am wrong. Those big firms hardly need to do anything other than throws money on websites and stay on top. Customers just google for one and sees the one on the top so big firms gets the cream. The meeting was saying how to fight back but to be honest, I am an engineer not a computer whizz kid and I have to rely on pulling in favours to get the website running which produces so little result. It may work well for some but me.

The other thing knowing about how to get a bargain from various suppliers by using WTA membership, this is something that I can easily do.

Overall it was good meeting, keep up with the good work. 8)

It is the power board blown. Is it repairable by QER or EMW?
