ParticipantRe: Oven cleaning firms causing problems to engineers?
Very true! Though it’s rather annoying as some screws are not that easy to get hold of particularly with older ovens. I had to make do with other types of screws. No doubt the next engineer would be scratching his head why on earth using a different screws.
This begs the question on liability on who is liable for the cost of repair after the oven cleaning. Often the case that the oven was cleaned a long time ago and therefore the liability kinds of rest with the owner of the oven. I even had one client who was wary of getting the oven cleaning firm out, instead she asked me if I knew how to clean it.
I admit that I have been caught out on that as I had never cleaned my oven at home as it self cleaning at super heated rate of 500deg. I do not know of a steam cleaner being effective despite the demo on QVC, what’s the verdict out there then?

Martin wrote::hmm: With that lousy megger reading it could soon be in line for a heater unit change anyway.
The heater unit itself was over 200mohms and the readings I gave was from a plug of the dishwasher!
Thanks for the advice, I will check it out later.

thanks Martin,
I had a look at the dishwasher, it did all of the things I expected to do. Draining well, wash motor works well, heater gave good readings, soap dispenser works.
Which kinda leaves what you said the turbity sensor – I do not know what is it and where to find it, can you help?
I must point out that the dw gave out quite low insulation reading of 143mohms. Not the readings I am used to as it usually way over 200mohms. I can’t think of a reason of low insulation readings other than heater and wash motor but they both works. Customer reported of nothing unusual such as poor washing performance as if that is the case then it would require a complete new heater unit.
The dishwasher in question is in line for recall for new module.

ParticipantRe: Bosch dishwasher free call?????
I have a job this morning for the dishwasher. It was reported as a fault – being stuck at 3 mins fault. I checked out the model number but not the batch number, it looks like it is in line for recall.
The question is do I repair the 3 mins fault or leave it with Bosch?

There were some incidents where people were rear-ended and their car burst into flames burning the occupants alive.
The company commissioned an internal report into how much it would cost to redesign and make all their cars safe and how much it would cost to pay out compensation to people who’s cars burst into flames. The report came back that it would cost a lot less to simply let people burn and pay out compensation as incidents were “relatively few”.
.I remember that documentary – the federal court ordered them to recall the cars and this was the landmark case from that point all companies started shaking in their boots. Funnily enough with this Japanese cars accelerating pr braking for no reasons due to software glitches, the Americans were filing lawsuits for this and for future depreciations of the car as they do not want to buy a car with a “history”.
I do not know if our English laws are that robust forcing companies to recall their products in return to improve the quality. We did that many years ago with particular foreign cars as a result it was suspended for 10 to 15 years as it was terrible, now they are the major importer of cars that are very well built – same owner of the name who also makes washing machines.

Unless I mis understood, is Beko being brought to account for manslaughter? Harking back to the days of British Rail with all that train crashes, the govt brought out legislation that the chief exec can be sent to prison if found guilty. But no one was found guilty under this law. It’ll be interesting to see it turns out with Beko…I do not know if it is possible to prosecute a foreign firm but with being part of EU and Turkey is a member then who knows?

ParticipantRe: Neff Dishwasher – S5443X1GB/07 – Drain pump
Turned out on the second visit, this dishwasher did not require new pump. The warm water I poured in on the other day have loosen up the caustic soda and I diluted it few times (sponge it out then add more warm water and repeat the process). I checked for any leaks, it all appears to be watertight so it looks like the client got away with it.
So naturally the client is relieved. I did warn him about using caustic soda, he learnt his lesson as he burnt his hand using the stuff. He’s a Doctor for goodness sake! He works at a local hospital.

Sounds familiar??? Same thing applies to cars and vans! All the energy gone into producing summat energy efficient never will be recovered even with 70+ mpg.
The only way to recover energy is to stop using it! The more you don’t use it, the longer it lasts. :clown:

checked all my suppliers – they all says no longer available. Until there’s one available, I will continue using the sponge!

No i haven’t! I didn’t know there’s such thing as syringe. I once mooted the idea of wet n dry hoover but can’t be bothered with all that fuss.
The part number you gave me is that for which supplier?

ParticipantRe: Neff Dishwasher – S5443X1GB/07 – Drain pump
I found out it was caustic soda as I noticed the smell of the liquid. I even had the stuff in my eye a short while ago which resulted a visit to the local A&E, thankfully no lasting damage.
Some customer can be very discreet on what they put in, they mumbled something like a small bottle of white granules that you add water to it. My gut feeling that it was caustic soda, damn right it is!
I used the gloves but they tear so easily, I will have to think about heavy duty marigolds the black one of course.
I should not think I will have trouble removing the drain pump as it was diluted, I will add warm water to soften it then sponge the liquid out then remove the pump. Hopefully it should come off with ease.
In hindsight, the drain hose was blocked at the sink so he could have avoided using the caustic soda in the first place instead he deprived his family of luxury.
Bless him, I don’t hold it against him.

Thanks guys.
Still I don’t get it, why change it if the old one works so well? Like Martin says, if it is green than buy it. Now the new energy rating have different shades of green.
Army green is good
Green leaves green is better
Golf course grass Green is even betterOf course to us guys it’s the opposite as they use lesser water and much lower temperature thus more gunk in the machine- the greener the machine is, the more work is for us to clean it out!

ParticipantRe: What’s Beko are like?
Cheers guys,
I was given a budget of £200 to buy a new washing machine. As I said earlier that I narrowed it down to Beko, after visiting the trade counter, it looks like the discounts on Beko are smaller than the likes of higher end appliances. I wonder what’s the discounts on Miele and the markup on it? Mind you my supplier’s do sell it but I have not enquired about it!
I have not worked out the percentages but the figures speaks for itself.. I can get a standard 1000 rpm from Beko for £127.60 plus VAT but the RRP is around £179.99 leaving me with £26.87 in my pockets if I am to compete with larger chains. Very little margin on this but I was told it’s a high volume as they sell more of it compared with the alternative like Indesit. Although I think I can get bigger discounts on Indesit/Hotpoint but they get bad ratings compared with Beko. Now I am faced with a challenge of Daewoo and HomeKing although Samsung seems a good contender if I can persuade my client to spend a little extra – All have great discounts but I am not familiar with the brand.
I discovered that no matter what I buy from the supplier, I would get around £20 to £25 mark up on each machine. So I will look into how to recoup the margin such as introducing connection charge to make it worthwhile.
I could say the appliance is £200, and add connection fee on top of that?
As for Amica, I don’t get these through my usual suppliers.

Just been on the blower to my mother who have this dishwasher but after checking it out, it was not affected. Glad to know that I can sleep soundly knowing that my mother is safe!
It’s quite worrying that after attending a few of these jobs in the past. Thankfully some of these repairs were too costly to put right and it became BER. Did them a favour in some respect.
