ParticipantRe: Wiring a Hob and oven
a lot of hobs recommend wireing in 2.5 d i y stores even sell heatproof 2.5 flex labled as for hobs 🙄
still seems too small for me diversity of use or not! If I remember correctly its OK to use one isolator for both hob and oven if it and the units are within 1.5 m check in the regs or one of the regs guides to be on the safe side that said how many new houses have you been in to find the isolator on the other side of the kitchen or even inaccesablewilf 🙄

check you have a good earth to this, a failed earth and a dodgy element could leak via neutral causing all kinds of wierd faults. is it a new or old house whats the supply like? also check that the dp main switch isolates both poles I once had one leaking 50 volt when off!

ParticipantRe: Dyson washing machine RIP
spot on maltheviking marketing is exactly what they are! the only benifit to us was the attempt to raise the price. but thats getting hammered as you can now find machines for sale retail for the same as best price trade. if he does put out a washer will it be a badged? the dyson name could easly carry on a import machine. another foot hold for the chinese?

Price. Any adult under the age of 35 has (except for housing) never known inflation. The price is expected to continue to fall, smaller traders relying on service to keep afloat. The big boys play the volume game and wonder why they sink e.g. powerhouse etc. Supermarkets must be rubbing their hands heres a chance to clean up! A farmer recently told me if supermarkets cant sell or want to discount the supplier must bear the cost (wheat carrots etc). Well folks what makes you think we are any different? Brown goods are already a major part of supermarket display, its proberbly only the weight that holds back whitegoods. There is one thing that might upset…………….
WEEE will this push the price up? H.M.gov was caught with egg on its face re fridges so I wont hold my breath. I expect that they will push for the cost to be met without being passed on to costomers once again the supermarkets would help here.
We are the last link in the chain everyone has had a piece of the pie by the time we get to fix them any profit will be down us not insurers or contract work.
Spares providers will know this and will be, with our support, our best hope of keeping afloat.wilf

many years ago when running late I went to a 1504 fitted a pump tested and left in about 20 mins with the customer complaining “bit steep only been here 20 mins” next job 1504 needs a pump! Im still late so 20 mins later “there you go all done”
” what just like that? ..well it makes a change to meet someone who knows what he’s doing and dont hang about keep the change have a drink Ill know where to come next time”same approach diffrent result

ParticipantRe: CORGI RIP-OFF PLUS VAT
I dont touch gas so have to advise customers to contact a gorgi engineer feed back I get…… “75 quid to connect a new cooker b….. rip off” ” there supposed to come with a hose” “B&Q sell the hose so you CAN do it yourself” ” Its only a screw in hose Ill just use the old one”
Too much regulation is counter productive , when connection charges start to approach 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the cheapest appliance the cash strapped will cut corners. lives are at risk.how can they check every cooker? government has ever since it outlawd rrp pushed appliances prices down, their regulations make trade charges even at reputable prices e.g.£40+ look expensive .

ParticipantRe: Bosch T/drier Heater – New Heaters Faulty?
greg if you look at the fixing bracket you will see its not quite at a right angle pinch the edges together with a pair of grips to correct this and then make sure that the top element is not sitting high (put it on the floor and lean on it)

ParticipantRe: Hotpoints new Parts policy
a few years back we opened genuine belts packets to find pre packed “homespare” belts inside. so this is not new. Ive also had boxed motors secondhand and once had a module with the block still on (had been cut off)
