Re: hotpoint twin tub tripod kit

On Friday night, BEC components (bec-components.co.uk) were showing the tripod 149090 as a stock item for £21.08 but strangely enough tonight (Saturday) the same search shows nothing. 😕 Damn, 2 hours searching on Friday night and I thought I’d cracked it!! I desperately need one of these too.
My customer is adamant that they are available and her brother “He’s very good on the computer you know” has obtained one for his machine last week from Hotpoint themselves. 😯 Yes, I did question her and she was certain. Mind you, that’s not the first time I have heard of such clandestine things happening…… 👿
I am going to call her bluff tomorrow and ask HER to obtain the part; if she is successful I’ll post the website address.
    Don’t hold yer breath……..

Re: Neff u1744 fan always on

First of all – Power Off. :plug:
Remove the oven from the housing and take the top and back panel off. At the back of the oven there should be a long cylindrical fan with a small motor at one end. This is your cabinet cooling fan. Now trace the wiring from the fan. One wire will be a common neutral (connected to an element and when the wiring loop is followed, eventually goes back to the contact block where the supply comes in and connected to “N”).
The other wire will go to a small thermostat with 2 connections. With the wiring disconnected, check for continuity between the terminals. This should test open circuit when cold if it’s OK. Closed circuit means it has stuck in the “on” position.
This stat is the probable culprit. Full model number and serial number to Shop@ and Dave will find you the right part.

Remember, Power Off before any inspection. :plug:

546546 and 546547 are different. These boards are full computer PCBs and I would suspect the board over the pressure switch. I don’t recall ever having to change a pressure switch on a modern Zanussi type machine; at least I never cleared a fault by doing so.
Get a board from EMW – lowest cost (and risk) solution. 😉

    Re: bosch tripping electrics

Any machine that trips the electric is a safety hazard and must be unplugged immediately. :zap:

The only surefire way of checking for an earth leak is with an insulation tester. Earth leakage can be from the heater, motor, an internal leak or a damaged wire.
The best option is to contact a professional to repair it. Easier and above all, safer in the long run. 😉

    Hope that helps,

Probable NTC failure – temperature sensor in normal speak. 😉 It’s the little post that sticks up in the sump and is removed from underneath.

Power off and unplug before any inspection. :plug:

    Re: Zanussi WJD1357S Dead.

Jim – it’ll probably be a connection fault between the main PCB and the fascia PCB. The plugs oxidize and usually the board will fault E90. No display is a common symptom of bad connections. 😉

The regulator you need has changed to Diamond H type 41ER1. Connect part no. ELE4109 or Qualtex part no. CS29 (stock code 010378). This is the single circuit regulator with the single nut fixing (English cooker style with a short shaft) and has a connection for a pilot lamp. It is basically the updated version of the old Diamond H green backed 31ER1HT. Wiring instructions included but diagrams available at http://www.diamond-h-controls.co.uk. 😉

    Re: Hoover HDV6 capacitor

IIRC it’s an 8uf capacitor fitted to that motor. Surefire way to check for cap. failure is to remove the lid, switch on, and the motor should hum. Then push the drum round by hand and it should start and continue turning until it stops to reverse. Then the motor will hum again. Push the drum and it should start to turn.

I would be interested – insurances are a headache at the best of times. Some more details please – and who is the insurer?

Re: Property for sale in Sandbanks

I’ve repaired ‘Arry’s machine a couple of times in the past when he used to live down the road near the Parkstone yacht club. The first time I went I fixed his Hotpoint WM22P – new motor brushes. I couldn’t see anywhere to leave the old brushes so I stuck them in my pocket and went out into the kitchen to get paid. Harry was sat on a bar stool and I said “Who shall I make the bill out to?” to see his reaction. He looked at me and said with a smile, “Harry Redknapp, you know me – the football manager – don’t you follow football?” I said that I wasn’t a fan so he spent the next couple of minutes or so trying to tell me the error of my ways. I told him at the end that I obviously knew who he was and he seemed pleased. :rolls: He is a really friendly chap. That was back when he was managing Southampton.
Listening to Talksport in the van later that day, Hawksby and Jacobs were asking the listeners to ring in about anything they had taken away from a sporting star’s house after doing a job there. People had old taps and offcuts of carpet – so I rang in about Harry’s motor brushes. Must be the only Hotpoint carbons ever to be famous on the radio. 😀
A friend of mine has a shop in Parkstone (about 2 miles away) and is a die hard Southampton fan. Needless to say you could cut the air with a knife when old Harry comes in. 😉

    Re: Guerrilla Tactics

I have to concur with Lawrence’s point that if you approach them as a body and ask a set question, you should expect a straight answer. No prizes for guessing what that might be of course!! 😀
But seeing as we are the new TA, starting out, planning our future; it would almost go without saying that we may ask for manufacturers’ assistance and cooperation. After all, our members are used (double entendre intended) for insurance work to back their machines and in effect, keeping them looking good. The 2 way street. 😉
The letter has to be identical to all parties to look as innocent and impartial as possible.

I hope this will include Miele – getting asked more and more about repairs to them. Usually, I just pass them on ATM.
    And I don’t like that…… 👿

    This should be interesting…… :dark:

    Re: Guerrilla Tactics

OK – now I see what you mean!! Therefore, are we going to base our case on the motor industry one that was passed around at Sibson? It would be interesting to know how they started the ball rolling. Did that case set a precedent? If so, then that would make it a direct comparison with the whitegoods trade. That would surely put it within the remit of the OFT, would it not?
