    Re: Baumatic B12 hob : intermittant problem…

Baumatic connection blocks (where the mains supply goes in and connects to the internal wiring) melt regularly. Tightening the connections will move the wiring slightly and give a temporary circuit. A closer look is required – Power Off!! . :plug:
Contacting Baumatic may take some persistence…… 😉

    Hope that helps,

    Re: Zanussi ZWF1431W bearing replacement?

These late Zanussi washers are quite often fitted with bonded tubs – sounds like yours is one of them. You can tell easily by removing the lid (power off!) and looking at the lugs around the centre line of the tub. Each lug should have a ‘bolt’ through it. If it has, new bearings can be obtained and fitted and the machine will be fine. If not, it is a bonded drum and is therefore scrap.
If the machine has already been written off by an insurance company then they would almost certainly have noted the serial number. If you report the fault to the manufacturer, then you can be pretty sure it will get picked up and refused.
Manufacturer interested? No. Trading Standards? Well, it has been written off so the insurance company has fulfilled its responsibility = no case. Yes, it is not really fit for purpose considering its age, but in the eyes of the company this machine technically doesn’t exist anymore.
Bonded tubs are being used in more and more machines every year – they may become the norm in the future. It is extreme cost cutting by the manufacturer to allow them to meet the unrealistically low prices that are expected by today’s consumer. Bad for the trade, disastrous for the environment and most of all, more aggravation and inevitably a higher cost for the customer. But while people are happy to spend less than £250 on a machine then these problems are surely going to arise.
The Zanussi is scrap; unfortunately. To repair it would be expensive and still would not improve the quality of the product. It is sad reality.
Look for a quality machine like a Bosch or ISE and get a decent product with a decent warranty. (10 years with the ISE10!!) Worth it in the long run.

    Hope that helps,

    Steve.

If it is the timer, EMW do them – £29.90 + VAT. Tel. (01159) 652118. You’ll need the 514—, the 516— or 11200/– number from the unit to order.

    Hi, Chris!! :waving:
When you press the button you can clearly hear the click of the switch underneath – but nothing happens. Then if you press repeatedly, say, 8 – 9 times it MAY eventually start.
Looks like the customer is considering replacing it unless I can pull a solution out of the hat……. :rolls:

    Thanks for the reply!

Connect list it – £10.80 + VAT special order. 5045171443398 is their part number. Don’t know how that compares to BSH themselves.

Re: Hoover AL130-01 Drum bearing change

All the ones I have done have not come back – actually put a pump on one I repaired over a year ago at the beginning of this month. Obviously down to discretion on the shaft condition though.
Suffice to say, I would generally only do this job if work was slow…… 😉

Re: Hoover AL130-01 Drum bearing change

The bearing kit is the same as the Zanussi small shaft kit – 6204 and 6205 bearings and the seal measures the same. I have done quite a few of these and never needed a spider. The machine has to be dismantled by removing the timer and all components and hanging them outside the cabinet.Remove the hoses and suspension leg pins. I then attach my winch to the drum assembly and lift it out of the cabinet. The drum then splits like a Zanussi Nexus and the bearing removal / refitting is identical.
Labour intensive job – the winch makes it a lot easier. Allow yourself a good amount of time – it’s not the quickest bearing job. Nonetheless, not too difficult!! 😉

    Re: Overcharging southern company

I went to a lovely old couple in a large house in an affluent area of Bournemouth just after New Year. Old Neff double oven with the large hinges units that go top to bottom of the door.
Yes, they are expensive – but they were quoted £250 to fit two new hinges. 😯 When they said, surprisingly, “we’ll have to think about it”, they were charged £59 call-out fee. 😯 😯
The lady then phoned me as I have repaired her washing machine before – (you know – the “Oh , I didn’t realise you did cookers as well…”comment, :rolls:) and I attended the call. Took the door apart ( the other guy didn’t even remove it to check the hinges) and reattached the spring to the left hinge carriage and refitted the door. Job done!!
These companies make it harder for the genuine engineer to operate. On the other hand, they help to make the genuine engineer much more valued by his customers. Still, it seems the Trading Standards seem to be unable to stop these practices.

Try the NTC tag wires – they are spindly thin and will break internally, not always obvious at first look. Tug each wire gently and they can just pull off. Cut back and retag as necessary.
I have also had fault issues from the wash NTC as well: so worth checking that and its wiring while you’re at it. 😉

Certainly sounds like the PCB – and EMW do 3 types. Look at http://www.emwelec.co.uk and there are photos that will help you identify the correct type.

    Re: LG washer WM16336FD

I had this problem only this weekend with my own LG direct drive machine. Rumbling and grating noise – similar to a drum pulley scraping the back of a plastic drum or a broken spider. But not all the time.
Turned out to be a sock in the drum!! 😯 Heater out and removed it. Perfect!! That could be your problem. 😉

Are the concrete weights loose? They will make a terrible hammering noise on spin.
    Worth a look!!
