My theory is that it is due to the three ‘L’s: Low temperature, Low usage and Liquid detergent.
The mould and bacteria that accumulates in machines that are used in this senario, grows in the crystaline structure of the aluminium alloy and attracts the alkaline chemicals in the detergent. Subsequently the alkaline starts to break down the alloy.
That’s what I tell my customers anyway.
Right or wrong, it gives the customer something to think about. I rarely get a repeat call for bacteria growth and corrosion when I have told the customer about the “three L’s”

To give an idea as to the size of the problem, it might be worth a poll to see how many drum supports are being changed for this problem. I am currently changing 5 to 10 hotpoint drum supports per month.
Nice little earner though, so do we really want to stop it? 😉Bob

Sorry Kev, it’s long gone!
As Jim said, I am sure there are many more like this out there.
Andy, feel free to steal the photo.

ParticipantRe: hpt td stats
There are several threads of similar theme to this one.
It must be stressed that it is not safe to reset these stats. In my opinion they should not be known as stats but should be referred to as a Thermal Fuse.
They trip for a reason and simply resetting them is not solving the original problem.
Pushing them from inside with a pin can send them wildly out of calibration. So much so they may not provide any protection in the future!

For future readers of this thread, don’t overlook that a faulty mains plug and/ or socket will give this symptom.

Don’t forget to check the pressure switch and chamber.

ParticipantRe: Creda easy load condensair dryer – advice needed
This can simply be that breather hole in the condensate bottle lid is blocked. The breather hole allows the air to escape from the bottle whilst it fills via the valve from the back. Without a breather hole, the bottle will only fill with a very small amount of water.
Check that you can see light through the hole, if not clean it out with a sharp pin.

ParticipantRe: Wfb2004gb/13 skips spin
Thanks for all the replies. I have checked all the wiring etc and it seems to be fine. The pressure switch seems fine. The customer has told me that it will wash ok and will advance to the final spin and then only distribute. If she puts it on spin again a few times it will sometimes spin and then be OK for a few washes. I just wish it would do it for me!
I think I will go for the timer in this instance (and it is in stock)!
I will keep you all posted.

Thanks Chris. I have never experienced this before on a Bosch but it is virtually the same timer as used on the Indesit machines that suffer from this symptom.
I’m going to have to check that model number though as it’s not listed on the Bosch website.I think the timer is actually the cheaper option too 🙂

My gut feeling here is that the triac on the module is playing up when it’s cold. There are certainly no dry joints on the module and the components show no signs of overheating.
The last time I had this type of problem was on an Indesit and it turned out to be the timer. The symptoms in that case definitely pointed towards the module or the pressure switch!
I just wonder if anyone has had similar symptoms on this type of Bosch appliance.

ParticipantRe: hotpoint test
I have a feeling that these machines are going into test mode themselves when subjected to radio interference. A few years ago, the Mistral Fridge Freezers were turning themselves on to fast freeze when a walky-talky or a CB radio was used in the same room.
I have a customer with a “radio’ clock that is situated three feet from their Hotpoint washer that keeps going into tESt mode. Since they moved the clock into another room it has not happened (to my knowledge) 😕

I thought that any product sold in the UK had to comply with BEAB and British Standard safety legislation that states that any inspection cover can only be removed with use of a tool and that there must be an Electric Shock warning if the inspection cover is removed.

There is an Ariston machine (or is it an Indesit?) that has a ‘special shoe’ program. There is a shoe logo on the front of the machine!!!
I think it is one of this year’s production machines. When I saw it a month or so ago I intended to take a photo to post on the site.Bob
