From memory the last time I did one of them , there was a modification leaflet instructing you to bend the metal bracket slightly in order to accomodate the new thermostat.

I’ve agreed, mainly because of Sean doing my head in, to raise it to £75 a year, which is a whole £4.50, just to stop him whining at me, to be fair though this is the first increase since 2005. So any complaints should be directed towards Mr Delaney. 😆

My subscription renewal invoice from UKW came in today @£70:50 as per usual :?. Have I talked myself out of £4:50 by asking this question or is it a special low cost for me :).

Yes Clive , yellow pages advertising has been discussed often in the past and opinions vary from “wouldn’t touch them with a barge pole” to “best money I’ve ever spent”.

I think we agreed it’s a regional thing and of course there’s the lucky few who don’t need to advertise at all :rolls:.

😯 Cheers for that info. Martin , for some reason I’ve never even noticed that before and I do rely heavily on Yellow Pages advertising.
Total scam IMO and goes against any kind of fair play. I’d think yellow pages would have to consider altering this if they received enough complaints .

Mind you in the case of Hoover and Hotpoint , I doubt we’re loosing much private chargeable work to them.

    Re: TESCO £99 WASHER

There’s a growing number of people who want to be seen to be looking good. Spend all their money on cars , holidays , clothes , kids toys etc. and a lot of these people sacrifice on quality and price when it comes to things their “rivals” don’t see , like appliances.

What they don’t realise , and we have to educate them on , is that buying cheap these days really is a false economy and we should keep on telling them this and you never know one day we might get through.

If we could make them look foolish or inferior for having low cost appliances , rather than boasting as to how cheap they managed to get a new dishwasher for , that would be the answer but how to swing that in our favour is a difficult one.

    Re: low cold water pressure

Tom , as far as I know all cold water should be fed directly off the mains water supply. Storage tanks are for topping up central heating and hot water tanks etc.

I wouldn’t want to drink water that came from any sort of storage tank and any appliance should be fed from the same source.ie mains supply.

With the best will in the world I cannot regard that as anything other than excessive.

Make your mind up Jim 😕

I think it’s all down to the type of customer and work you’re trying to attract and the important thing is being up-front and honest.

Just as an alternative it does look like AEG are currently offering a free 5 year parts and labour guarantee on L86810.

    Re: House of Horrors

Not defending the manufacturers here but I guess the point in their favour is that presumably they’ve fully informed the customer of the £90 labour charge before booking the call.

I don’t really see that as ripping people off (when they already know the price) , well only in a round about way I suppose :rolls:.
It’s more of a take it or leave it situation.
