When i trained with Hoover back in the day we were tested for colourblindness, but when i worked for Currys there was no such scrutiny…says a lot about the two companies really! 😉

tricky one that dan, as the manufacturer will prolly argue that age plays a part too (i know 2 1/2 years is far too little time) and the fact that the knob can get damaged by the user also. 😥

depends on the model…lavamat is a name that AEG have used for a number of years with many variations.
The older models have an electronic module fitted to the base plate of the cabinet which does occasionally suffer from dry solder joints or burnt connections.
The later models (which i assume you have)have the motor control built in to the main timer/pcb electronics.
It would be worth checking the motor cicuitry first though..simple continuity check accross the armature and field coils etc with an ohmeter would show if you’ve fitted the brushes correctly, and that the rest of the motor is ok too.

sounds like the commutator needs ‘dressing’ …use very fine emery and spin the motor by hand whilst holding the emery against the copper segments to polish them, then brush them out (an old toothbrush is ideal)
The brushes also need dressing…use a file to carefully file a taper on the sides of the carbon brushes…about 1mm should do the trick.
While you’re at it just double check you’ve fitted the brushes correctly, and the wires to them are also in place.
If still no go then there is a distinct possibility that the brush failure has damaged the module…you may need an engineer to diagnose that for you?

…and really stubborn aluminium fans only come off by carefully drilling two or three holes down around and touching the steel motor shaft…that usually takes the tension off and with some twisting it should come free!

Re: Looking to buy Condensor Dryer and need advice please!

Considering the invironment its going in, there’s a good case to buy a basic machine like a White Knight or a Creda for example…they are very cheap to buy, very basic and therefore reliable, and they will dry your clothes quite adeqautely.
As to which model well its worth buying a model which has a reversing action to avoid a lot of creasing.
The only important thing to consider when installing it is to make sure the vent hose is as short as possible, preferable less than three feet (1 metre). Any longer than that and the moisture in the exhaust may condense within the vent hose causing problems.
All in all the cheapest and easiest way to go really 😉

No that doesn’t sound normal…you can check to see if the door is sealing correctly by having a good listen when its washing…if you press on one side of the door and then the other, check that the sound of the machine doesn’t change. If it does it means that the door catch may need adjusting, or it may have been poorly installed…occasionally I see built in dishwashers with the top mounting screws hanging down preventing the door from closing fully.
Incidentally, it is worth getting sorted quickly because the steam can damage some worktops.
    Hope that helps?

    Hi Richard

First thing to check is that the clock is not set to automatic…easily done without realising on many cookers. If it has a digital timer then you need to check the manual for settings, if its an analogue timer then one of the knobs will need rotating or pushing to display the little ‘hand’.

Let us know how you get on?

    Hi Steve

The door seals can often be replaced, the way to check is to carefully ‘peel back’ the seal on one edge and look to see if there are screws that hold the door liner to the door…if there are then they can be unscrewed, releasing the door seal for replacement.
More worrying though is the iceball at the back of the fridge…I’ve seen many Zanussi’s with this problem which is caused by the small distance between the supply pipes for the ‘fridge evaporator and the back wall of the ‘fridge. Unfortunately this has caused the insulation to fail locally for which there is no economical or practical cure, however if you can live with the problem by manually defrosting when required then it will continue to cool ok until you buy a replacement which is really your only answer i’m afraid.
