I can proudly boast that until he recently moved from Ewelme Down House (more like a castle really!), THE Mr Charles Colston was one of my customers…a very pleasant chap who had two lovely Bosch made Hotpoint dishwashers in his kitchen 😉
Ohhh….he did still have one of his own table-top units but that was in the summerhouse by the pool 😆

ParticipantRe: SMEG DWI614 – Door and button issue
Sounds like the ‘grabber’ in the door lock has rocked over as though the door is actually shut, in which case you can very carefully prise it back again…two small thin screwdrivers (one each side of the grabber) carefully inserted through the small slot in the top of the door.
Be careful not to bend the stainless steel (there’s a bit of a knack to doing it), and when it’s reset back to the open position you should be able to program the machine however you need to check the alignment of the door to ensure it doesn’t happen again. This is not adjustable so if it’s misaligned you be best to get professional advice on how easy/expensive it will be to correct.
If the door alignment is ok then the cause is wear in the door lock which will need replacing.
If you need professional help then try the Repairs@ link below for someone near you.
Don’t forget, power off before doing anything

ParticipantRe: Repeated breakages of Hotpoint oven lamp cover
Forgot to add…..when you fit a lamp cover, never tighten it all the way….just ‘nip’ it up, then the worst that could happen is it will loosen and rattle slightly in which case it can be retightened.

IIRC some lamp covers have a soft alloy washer underneath them which would obviously protect it from heat expansion.
What’s the model number of your oven?…..I’m sure someone here with the correct manufacturers technical info 😉 will be able to tell you whether a washer is required…

Like Martin said, the heater is faulty (the wash pump running for far too long as a result gets very hot which will put a little warmth into the water which is what’s confusing you)

Yes indeed….To get the full benefit of the chemical i’d recommend you run a 90 degree wash! (whites, no prewash) 8)

If the drain hose was blocked with scum (product of hard water and detergent) the it will almost certainly be blocked further back in too.
The cure?….follow the drain hose connection back inside and clean the outlet hose from the pump/filter chamber, and the white plastic vent box it connects to….i suspect you’ll be amazed at just how much muck there is in there. The only way to clean the box sufficiently is to strip it out, get it in the sink and give it a good poke around inside with an old wire coat-hanger or similar.
Lastly, when you’ve got it all back together again, it would do no harm to run a proprietary descaling chemical through the machine 😉

Hi Doug, are you sure you haven’t got a partial blockage somewhere causing a pressure build up?….i’ve never seen one of these fail before and in cases where i’ve had to seperate the parts for other reasons, i reassemble them with a little vaseline and haven’t had a leak yet….

Its the clip on plastic chamber at the back of the tub just above the motor. Clean it out (clean the rubber grommet it fits to also), and give the machine another go…… 😉

Are you in a hard water area ihop?

ParticipantRe: Bosch – Transport Bolts Query
I disagree gegsy, the bolt presumably is removed? The only part remaining is the plastic spacer which will have dropped out of harms way even if not found….in which case the machine is ready to use without worry.
Belt and braces approach would be to remove the lid and have a good look at the back of the tub 😉

QED?Nice one Clive, but can you QED? Has there been some tests carried out by someone somewhere?
Not that i’m aware of Martin, but i’d be interested to hear of any tests…my questioning the purity of the salt used arises from 25 odd years of observation, anecdotal i accept, but a very real observation nonetheless 😉

Pure as the brand names? I’m surprised at the question to be honest. 😕I’m not Martin, in my experience the dishwashers that have used the supermarket brand salt exclusively have a less efficient softener in later years resulting in limescale deposits and earlier pump seal failure than is the case with those that had have used Finish salt. QED?

Thanks
Absolutely NOT! That was advice for the old ammonia type fridges which were prone to blockages in the system that could be shifted by up-ending them.
Firstly you need to establish if the compressor makes any noise at all….after having left it off for 30 mins or so, turn it back on and have a good listen (ear to the cabinet if necessary) and let us know if you hear anything at all?
