    Hi

It is most likely ( but by no means certain ) that at 14 years of age the compressor of your appliance is losing compression due to fair wear and tear.
The cost of replacing the compressor on an appliance of this age would not be economically viable.

When all lights flash Jim it means your in engineer function test mode you need to toggle through the functions till it fills after the spin test then the next push on the s/p/c button should return it to normal operation.

    Hi Kev,

I’m very interested in a crate of the new drinks from Coke but do you know if they do it in Diet/Sugar free formats ?

    Re: Rinse hold?

Have given this some more thought since Martin and I had our little chat yesterday.

The whole idea behind rinse hold was to enable customers to manually complete the wash from the last conditioning rinse, specifically to reduce badly wrinkled clothes that had spun out ealier in the day.
As a result the laundry would be stuck to the side of the drum, due to the centifugal forces applied to it and would consequently start to dry in that position. This would cause the laundry to come out very wrinkled and a dam site harder to iron for the customer.

The thing is that we are all sometimes caught in the tramlines of traditional thinking (I more than most if the truth be known !).

Bear with me for a moment and i’ll try to explain.

Firstly we are dealing with different performance machines and detergents today than we did when the rinse hold feature first came about.
I think that you will find that most new machines today give a period of gentle tumbeling after the spin to cut down on this effect.

The other thing is that more people today tend to use liquid detergents that if used exclusively and at low temeratures, tend to make the machines smell, due to a build up of bacteria breeding sludge on the tub and door gasket. This is also partialy due to the fact that these liquid detergents do not contain bleach.

So do we really want our laundry sitting stewing in a bacterial filled soup all day? even if the conditioners perfume does make it smell nice !

Far better to remove the laundry imediately after the wash process to have them as clean as possible, both visually and also in terms of bacterial residues.

That is why IMHO it is far better to use the time delay feature and remove the laundry as soon as possible after the wash completes if you are going to be out for the morning/day.

If you have been out a lot longer than expected then simply do an additional rinse and spin programe, with or without conditioner. This would take no longer than releasing the old rinse hold feature, and produce cleaner laundry.

Sorry Ken but not being a fully paid up member of the uk net nurd society, could you explain a little more. It’s obviousley big news but in no more than one paragraph could you explain the ramifications of being ‘Indexed by Google’.
I’m I right in thinking that basically, more people will be directed to the site ?

    Re: ‘A’ rated T/D?

It would also be interesting to find out the effect on the laundry itself. We already know that washing machines have various programes specifically to reduce the amount of agitation for certain fabrics.

In the UKW detergent training sessions we have several classic examples of fabric damage when items of laundry have been subjected to excessive agitation, even though they have been washed at the correct temperature and with the correct detergent. Eight hours of tumbeling does seem a tad excessive.

Perhaps Crosslee have come up with a magic solution to this problem also. I think Martin is right, lets ask them. 😉

Re: Trust Mark is it good for you?

It’s always better to jump rather than be pushed to my mind because at least that way you get to determine the timing of the event.

One thing I will say though, is that from what little I have read about the Trust Mark Scheme, it needs to be better tailored towards smaller priced contract work and more finely tuned towards our particular trade before it can be workable, as most of its conditions only apply to jobs over £250 and we dont do many jobs any where near that price.

It was mainly aimed at the jobing builder though I do know that H.M Govt. are keen to bring it to all trades eventually. It’s really only a matter of time, at the end of the day.

I can’t see this being 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} sucessfull without statutory trade certification/qualification, though we would be wise to try and start a dialouge now rather than have another Corgi type quango thrust upon us, God forbid.

In truth I guess that due to the average age of the guy’s in our trade, they are all hoping that they can make it to retirement before they have to bother with it at all.

    Re: Zanussi ZX99/5SI Resistor Blown?

    Hi Jamo,

To be honest the tech info on component parts is not that detailed as to enable us to identify the value of each constituant componet that makes up a complete control P.C.B

You are lucky today if having given the full and complete make, model, serial, and production numbers you are sent the correct complete part.

But if you are serious about trying to identify the actual value of the resistor in question, and you can read the coloured rings on it then perhaps this link might help.

    http://www.lalena.com/audio/electronics/color/

but would you be able to put your hand on your heart and trust the repair if you only replaced a resistor. When we both know (due to you being an ex-engineer yourself ) that just like a blown fuse, a blown resistor is all too often, only a symptom rather than the cause of the fault itself.

Why not consider calling in an expert from Repairs@

Is it possible for us to have a complaints holding forum or instructions to complainants to contact site admin if they have a complaint with the message that all complaints will be investigated and responded to in private

As I really do not like the tried, sentenced, and convicted without response system we seem to have at the moment.

Re: Is this one of ours

Hey guys get a grip, the engineer called friday sometime in the morning and probably had a full days work. you might get your guys to phone in for parts prices after each and every job but I certanly dont.

The engineer was probably off on saturday so the guy at the shop might not have been able to get hold of him for clarification of exactly what part was required.

This customer was pissed off at being charged a call out fee for a fault he was unable to diagnose himself is all and that is what the real complaint is about. Wouldn’t surprise me if this complainant isn’t just posturing before he stops the cheque.

I feel that this post should be removed from the site until both sides of the story have been heard as it damages the reputation of one of our members who has not had the chance to repond. The complaint should have been sent to the repairs@ feedback holding forum, until such time as our meber has had chance to respond to what is a dubious complaint at best
