Re: Whirlpool American Fridge Freezer broken down – help!

Your machine has the later electronics fitted to it so you may only need 1 board to repair.
You only need to guess which board now. 😛
The fault you describe is normally the rear board. Flickering lights can be either or both boards.

Probably got a flooded base causing it to short out.
Try tipping it back about 45 degrees to drain the base.
Not draining would most likely be a blockage.

It’s a Whirlpool in disguise. Down the edge of the door is a 12 digit number beginning 85. That’s the model number.

Thanks for that John, I’ll check it under load, unloaded 240v was present at the plug but didn’t check it when plugged into the pump.

Nope. All hoses have been off and checked. There’s nothing in them.

There’s no programming to do on the module.
Heating taken care of by the module, thermistor, heater and wiring.
As you’ve changed the module I’d guess the problem is with the thermistor.
Plenty of faulty thermistors that check ok on the meter 🙁

You should have had continuity through the heater and toc.
Sounds like the toc on the heater has gone open circuit.
    No reset switch.
Looks like a new heater required.

Re: A bit more -Rob and Dented, does this help?

Sounds like a heating fault to me. NTC, NTC wiring, heater, Heater wiring or PCB are the likely culprits.
NTC you’ve changed so unlikely that this is the fault.
You’ll need to meter out the heater and wiring to rule these out.
If everything tests ok then it’s possible it’s a faulty pcb.

My apologies Rob, you’re right. I’m ex whirlpool and time away has made it easy to forget. 😆

Re: Have I got two problems?

This is a standard Dolphin range machine from Whirlpool and does indeed have fault code diagnostics built into it.
The continuous flashing indicates a problem with the NTC.

    Re: Whirlpool Side By Side

The model number would indicate the machine is fitted with the later electronics and you shouldn’t need the front board.
If you’ve got the serial number it’s easier to tell from that which electronics are fitted.
Unless there has been another major software change the machine should go into defrost mode when it’s first switched on. After this it will start the compressor fan shortly followed by the compressor.
Think I’ve still got the training manual for these machines 😕

Possibly the impellor has come off the circulation pump.

    Re: fridge freezing

Given that your machine is 20 months old then your machine has the later electronics fitted to it and will try to sort the problem itself by putting itself into defrost mode when it detects a stuck damper. It will continually cycle between cooling in the freezer and defrost until the motorised damper moves again.
During this period foodstuff in the fridge (particularly the top shelf) will freeze if the damper is stuck on open.
Check the vent by the drawers, if it’s frozen this can also lead to freezing of the damper.
If you pack the top shelf with foodstuff you’ll also get freezing,
I’ve found over the years with my own one that if we leave a decent gap around the motorised damper cover and don’t put any warm or uncovered food on the top shelf I don’t get the freezing of the baffle problem. (Freezing leftovers while they’re still warm/hot will also cause problems).
There is a modification for some models that moves the baffle cover vents to the rear of the top shelf, also requires a modified thermistor cover. This is supposed to cure the freezing problem but I’ve never tried it so can’t confirm that it actually works.
The hairdryer trick will get the damper working on a temporary basis, removing from the machine and drying out properly will do better. I use two and change them over if the problem occurs.

BTW, I run mine at -20 and 4.

4 flashes is a draining failure. If it’s actually drained then most likely cause is the water indicator in the sump of the machine. Remove the filter and mesh filter and carefully clean out the black grid and try the machine again.

Re: whirlpool dishwasher error f4 then f2

F4 is a draining failure, F2 is a flooded base. Try tipping it back about 45 degrees with a few towels around it. If water drains out, reset it and try it again.
If the F2 error comes back up very soon again then it’s got a leak.
