If the drain is clear but you are still getting ice forming on the back wall then it sounds like the insulation is failing. It may be worth getting an engineer to check but if it is an insulation fault then there is no real effective cure for this i’m afraid.

Still sounds exactly like a timer fault to me.

Used to find timer dial stuck to the fascia when someone spills coffee/squash down the front which then wears the cogs in the timer as it struggles to turn the dial. Was the timer new or refurbished?

Stop solenoid should only be coming in at the beginning of the wash and the stats control the stop solenoid so if they fail it would either jam on heating phase or not stop to heat at all.

There is only 1 motor and that is the one at the bottom 😉

Timer doesnt have much to do with the spin on that model – all the speeds & direction control is done via the module, it may be worth checking the manifold/air chambers if you havent already done so. The one on the manifold is prone to blocking on this range and will cause spin problems.

Yep, timer’s knackered – the module is purely for motor control it doesnt advance the timer.

I once had this job, got to the house, note on the door – “Washing machine man, please go to garage side door”, thinking there was no one in and no car on the drive I walked round to the side door and opened it…

Lady of the house was running a beauty salon from the back of the garage and there she was with her client on the couch having her bikini line waxed.

    Re: Indesit IDL500(in the pink)

I have come across this situation several times before, pink staining or yellow depending on whether you eat alot of kormas or bolognaise / ketchup etc.

I had a machine, which was not an Indesit, still under guarantee and the soap dispenser & cutlery rack had gone a lovely shade of pink. The customer wrote to the manufacturer concerned who decided to allow us to replace the stained items as a goodwill gesture, which I did and the old pink items were returned for analysis.

The cause was the food colouring additives in the tomato ketchup staining the plastic and the customer was advised to scrape off as much of the residue as possible or even a quick rinse off first before putting the plates in the dishwasher and to use main brand detergent. Whilst the customer was not overly happy about this she did agree to try and the problem never re-occured. I’ve used this approach several times since without replacing components with no comeback.

If the previous machine was a Hotpoint then it’s safe to assume that it was produced by Bosch which puts it in a totally different league to the Indesit and as previous posters have stated, dishwasher technology has changed since you bought the Hotpoint, lower price = cheaper components and of course we now have lower water levels to make them more energy efficient which could potentially make the staining worse.

Put a small amount of ketchup or curry sauce in a small quantity of water and you end up with nice coloured solution which the filter cant trap it as it dissolves into the water, cheaper detergents don’t help this either. Also bear in mind that some of the Hotpoint/Bosch dishwashers used grey plastic on the interior components so staining is harder to see.

This sounds harsh but I seriously think you need to change the way you go about using your machine in future, regardless of manufacturer. As Martin has said, a change in detergent may mean that the staining can be removed from your machine and after all, when you chose your Indesit, which factor did you look at – the colour of the interior or its price ?

    Blimey – someone who loves a C15!

Where I used to work we had a fleet of the damn things, they were very reliable mechanically ‘cos theyre so basic (it is a Visa with a box welded on the back) they were just so flimsy – great for short distances but can give you serious back ache if youre tall & driving any distance and you certainly don’t want to be driving fast in one because it will desintegrate if you crash it (as me and several of my former colleagues found out!)

I managed to clock up 150k miles without a single breakdown before the boss upgraded to Berlingos, they are cheap as chips and citroen have been building C15s for 20+ years now – but i’d go for the Berlingo/Partner HDI.

I had this little gem a few years back, customer with a Zanussi FJ1295 still under 1st year guarantee. Lady had taken 4 days off work in total, had 3 different engineers who had changed the timer, pcb, pump & switch. Understandably she was a little cheesed off so I thought i’d just play it calm and start at the beginning:

Me: What’s the problem with the machine?

Cust: The rinse hold button doesnt work

Me: Which program are you using ?

    Cust: Program “C”

Me: There is no rinse hold on program “C”

    Cust: Yes there is

Me: No, there isn’t, do you have your manual?

Customer goes off, finds manual and i point out the lack of a rinse hold program, she promptly goes off on one big time which in some ways i could understand but then if she’d read the handbook…

There were also a couple of red-faced engineers in our office, especially when she tried to claim for lost earnings.

Yep, they ran some good courses down at Bognor, did my c&g 2078 down there and the training facilities were fantastic. My old fridge college tutor was ex Lec too.

    Sorry to see it go.

Went to a farmhouse today and all was going well until I forgot to duck for the low door frame, the resulting smack to the head knocked me to the floor and as I write this I have a lovely egg size bump on my forehead and mild headache.

The witty response from the customer – “oh… mind your head” 👿

Re: Identifying Date Codes and Serial Numbers

Electrolux group serial numbers (Zanussi, Tricity Bendix, AEG etc)
First digit = year of manufacture, next 2 digits = week of manufacture, rest are just general factory numbers.
    34900122 = 2003 week 49

Pre 1987 Zanussi machines, first 2 digits = year, next 2 digits = month
    8607 = July 1986

Re: Safety Issue on Hotpoint Dishwashers

Go for it Martin, I saw one of these a while ago and dismissed it as I thought a previous engineer had accidently left the covers off until he informed me that he had left the machine exactly how he’d found it. It could be only a matter of time before one of the little people discover the pretty coloured wires under the door…

I also think Goatboy’s comment on the last page is very valid having heard recently of a Hotperloni engineer who managed to wreck a pcb and his screwdriver while attempting to discharge it – very large bang so i’m told.

    If it’s a DF47/55 that serial would be 1991 week 33.
DF range was around late 80s – early 90s.
